Staples is having another sale on blank Fuji CDs and DVDs again.

My local store (Burbank) has them and they all say Made in Japan (TY) on them. But some people have reported finding some that say Made in Taiwan at other stores during the last sale, so YMMV on finding TYs.

50 pack CD-Rs = $9.94 OTD
sku 602541

30 pack blank DVDs = $11.94 OTD
sku 602543 - DVD-Rs
sku 602545 - DVD+Rs

Oddly, the Burbank store had the DVDs tagged at $9.94 even though online and the ad says they're $11.94, so YMMV on the $9.94 price.

I went to the Pasadena store (on Colorado Blvd near Rosemead) yesterday and found that there were about 1/3 made in Japan and 2/3 made in Taiwan all mixed together (these were the DVD-R's). I bought a couple of the ones from Japan and when the checker rang them up, they were only $9.94! The ad says $11.94 but I was only charged $9.94 (and this was for the DVD-R's, not the CD's). I also bought a box of the Fuji slim dvd/cd cases which were listed in the ad at $11.94 for a box of 100, and those too came up at $9.94 when I checked out. So this morning I went back and bought two more stacks of the DVD-R's (so now there is a smaller ratio of made in Japan to made in Taiwan on the shelf). There's still a few stacks made in Japan left, though. That's a great deal - 30 TY 8x DVD-R's for a little less then $10.00, no rebate to worry about.

Follow-up: I went to the Staples on Alameda in Burbank, which is the one closer to my office, but they only have the DVD-R's made in Taiwan. Then I drove to the other Staples which is in the big shopping center with Lowes, etc., and they have a mix of made in Japan and made in Taiwan so I wound up buying 3 more spindles. Plus I got another pack of 100 slim cases. All of them were $9.94. So I'm set for a while - good deal!

I picked up the DVD+R's during the last sale (last week i think), they were 9.94. Made in Japan, TY's. This weeks ad does say 11.94 though.

store in NYC (34st. bet. 5th and Madison) has some -R and +Rs on a table (30pk). the price plate says $9.94. I grabbed a spindle of +R MIJ, and there are still a couple +R spindles that's MIJ, all the -Rs are MIT.

Re: "+R is preferred" - perhaps, but I know some DVD players (like mine, an older one) will not play discs burned in that format. It only plays dvd-r. Even a newer one I bought plays some dvd+r's but not others so I have been using dvd-r's instead.

By the way, my receipt from Staples shows that the spindles were priced at 11.94 on sale but with a $2.00 "instant savings" which brought the price down to $9.94. I ended up buying 7 of them plus two 100-packs of the slim cases all for the same price.

My local store has a whole end-cap of Fuji discs, everything was $9.94 and everything was made in Japan. Even the -R DVDs were Taiyo Yuden which is pretty rare around here. Normally almost all of the +R are Japan and almost all of the -R are Taiwan. These didn't have the normal Fuji spindles though, these are funky colored disc multipacks. Instead of a single spindle of 50 it's 5 individual 10 count spindles shrink-wrapped together on the CD-Rs and 3 individual 10 pack spindles on the DVD-R. The discs themselves are in blue, red, green, yellow and purple.

Don't know about the CDs, but the DVDs are rated at 8x. But the MIJ that I got came up automatically at 16x (both -R and +R), so YMMV.

Yes on the label it will say made in and either Tiawan or Japan. Some times the cake box is slightly different, once you know what box to look for it is easy to find them.

 +R is preferred

I hope your saying what you prefer, because if your saying that +R is actually preferred your giving bad info. Try DVDRHELP.com and take a look at the argument threads over this war. If your just going by playability on standalones then you would see that -R is much better for compatibility. Right now there is no "Preferred", as they are quite similar and are hit and miss. It depends on compatibility of your Burner and your standalone player which seems random at times from all the variables of qualities of different manufacturers and qualities within a manufacturer

They were $17.98 at my store but they price matched their online price of $11.94-2 CPN, so all is well. I also had a few $10 off $10 coupons handy :).

Not necessarily. Have your store pricematch the online price. That's what I did earlier today and it worked just fine. BTW They're TY002, DVD Info rates them at 16x.

The spindles/mounts on the MIJ ones are colored transparent, while the MIT ones are solid colored.
