Blank DVD +R question

Hi all.

I just got a Plextor 708A for christmas and i wanted to get 4x media that could burn at 8X.

OK so i searched the boards and i found great info. I also found a page that listed media that would work on my burner at:

Now the problem is it listed DVDs with the Manufacturere ID. For example: TDK 4X DVD+R (RICOHJPNR01)

Now the question is how do I know i'm getting the RICOHJPNR01 media? Best Buy has a cool deal for TDK DVD +R's, 100 for something like 110 after mail in rebate. I went there tonight but i couldn't figure out if i was getting the RICOHJPNR01 DVDs or not. How can you figure this out from looking at the packaging? I only thing i could see on the spindle that made any differance is that it was made in taiwan. Is that what i want or can you just not tell from looking?

The folks in the HotDeals forum will often say who makes the disks in a particular DVD deal.

To find out who made your disks for yourself, get DVD identifier... Here

There is no way of telling by looking at the packaging, you'll have to do as what Hyperfocal suggested and download a media identifier program.

damn that's too bad you can't tell from looking at the package.

I'd hate to pay 100+ dollars for 100 blank DVDs only to find out i can only burn at 4X. That would feel like i wasted money buying an 8X dvd burner since i'd be buring my first 100 DVDs, which would probably take many months for me to get through, at 4X.


Is there any place where you can know you are getting blank DVDs by a certain manufacturer cheap? If not i guess i'll have to chance the TDKs from bestbuy.

Meritline or Rima (I believe) are reliable choices for media.

Memorex and Verbatim 4X DVD+R shows RICOHJPNR01 as identified with DVDInfoPro 2.24. Not sure about those TDKs.

Check out DVDRHelp.com, they have a database of various DVD media, who manufactured them and, I believe, what they are packaged as.
