I have a computer that I took offsite from our network and attempted to add it to another network so I can use my programs at their site.
Our network is a pier-to-pier using static addressing, and theirs is using windows 2003 server.
They attempted to add mine to their network, and they added a new user account onto my computer, but they had problems with the network adapter. I went to device manager to see if the adapter was set to auto-negotiate or gig, as they are 10-100 but it was blank. The cable when plugged in is showing amber color and a yellow blinking light. The computer seems to know there is a network connection, and it is not a card, but part of the mobo. Currently I cant connect to their network or internet.
I checked and made sure the Plug and Play service was enabled.
I checked the registry for the enum permisiions, and all seemed to be correct.
All the users permissions seem correct.
The computer was on the network at my office, working fine, before moving it to the other site. The ONLY THING that I changed (which may or may not have caused this) is I created a Mapped Network Drive for a sub folder of C. The programs I have have a lot of customization, and those are normally kept on a mapped network drive J, so I copied all the files to a folder under C and mapped it as J. I tested this to see if it would work, and it did. I did notice that it didnt work if the network cable was unplugged, it would not be able to find J, but as soon as I plugged it in, it would find J. Now at the other site, the same thing happens with J when the cable is plugged in it finds J, otherwise it doesnt. I disconnected the J drive to see if that was the problem, but that didn't help.
Any other ideas? Running winXP Pro SP2. (SP3 had failed a few times so I have updated it with everything other than SP3, and recently ran virus and spyware scanners)
The other possible issue is this computer had a failed attempt at installing SP3. A few computers in the office had failed, and one of those seeme to be working fine but it too has a blank device manager. None of the others that failed have a bland DM. Come to think of it, both these computers have seemed slower than normal, especially in the area of moving up within a program box window when you are moving up directories and trying to change drives or folders.
