Went to go do work for a client (who has a couple kids that like to dink on the computer) and am stumped trying to figure out why a blank cd-r will seem to have a 44 byte CD audio track on it.

I've tried messing with the CD Lookup database for Musicmatch and the CDplayer.ini file in the Windows directory to get rid of any blank or virtually blank entries.

Any thoughts?

Where'd the CDR come from? There are in fact CDRs that are formatted as audio discs and will be identified as such.

The ones she had on hand were Maxell branded cd-r's, didn't see any mention of them being "for music" or "for audio" though it's possible.

When I put a blank one in, Musicmatch opened up and it said there was a track of length 0:00 by the artist "sophie" (her daughter). Wrote some files to the disc, but didn't finalize it, and it still was recognized as an audio disc with that one Track01.cda. Finalized the disc and things seem to be just peachy.

Sounds like maybe the kids had a good time putting several discs into the drives and clicking buttons. :)

Yeah, exactly. I'm just trying to figure out what sort of buttons I can push to get things back to normal. Was pondering doing a fresh install... Guess this gives me another reason. ;)
