You've got to admire anyone who sticks to their principles and beliefs in the face of overwhelming controversy.

Contrast Blair and Bush to Clinton and his 'popularity poll' administration.

Lest we forget that diligence and solidarity look like stubbornness and inflexibility from the other side of the coin.

Stubbornness and inflexibility are not inherently bad things. They could be good or bad depending on the circumstances and stakes.

I always admire stubbornness and inflexibility when a person is so at considerable risk to themselves. It shows they are personally willing to suffer for what they believe, a rare quality these days, on either side of the coin.

Blair has alot more in common with Clinton than Bush. They're both Oxford scholars, they're both internationalists liberals, they're both very pragmatic and shrewd politicians, while Bush well... is more simple :)

You know, I've thought about that too, and that's why I had trouble figuring out why or how Blair had become Bush's biatch. I don't know, its weird isn't it?

Blair and Aznar(President of Spain) both showed major cajones.

In Spain only something like 4% of the people were for the war and 14% view the US positively.

Ah yes, and a bachelors from Yale and a masters from Harvard are so much chopped liver.

There is much 'mystique' about what is required to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Basically, having the 'right' political opinions will get you in. Its more politically and less academically oriented than most people think. Its politicized not unlike the Academy Award for Best Documentary and the Nobel Peace Prize.

Of course, by that same token, your daddy can get you in to either Harvard or Yale. But whom your daddy is won't carry you to graduation at either of those schools, and you and I both know Georgey wasn't nearly 'dark and oppressed' enough to qualify for social or grade promotion at either of those schools.

As a textbook representative of the 'privileged oppressor caste' for whom few Yale and Harvard professors of the 60s and 70s would find a stitch of empathy, if Georgey graduated with a C average, he worked for every last ounce of it and then some.

Basically, all attacks, suggestive or overt, on GWB's 'intelligence' are based on his terrible oration skills, which any qualified speech pathologist will testify is not any kind of credible measure or indication of intelligence.

There are lots of Baptist ministers and used car salesmen who have outstanding verbal skills, but I dare say that alone is not sufficient enough to conclude they must, therefore, be of high intelligence.
