Can this guy still appoint somebody or has the legislature moved to take that power away?

They should give him an IV of truth serum before he steps up there. To be honest I'm somewhat scared he's going to screw up the rotational momentum of the earth with his spin.

Wouldn't it be funny if he came to announce he was appointing himself?

Well, technically he's still innocent. He's only been convicted of crime and not found guilty.

He's gonna announce that he's sick of politics and is going to resign and start a retro Beatles cover band to do a tour of nightclubs throughout the midwest.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich scheduled a news conference today to make a statement to the media, his first public appearance since he was arrested last week on federal corruption charges.

I hope he plans to tell the people that Obama told him to do it....

Grow up.

You grow up Peter Pan....can't crack a joke around here without someone like you getting their granny panties in a wad?

No, he's going to go back to being a bookmaker for the Chicago mob like he did early in his career.

Hopefully he decides to turn on the criminals that seem to make up the majority of the democratic party. I wonder if he would turn informant if enough democrats would go down that the Republicans could take back the Senate and House?

:D

Lol, blanket denials against recorded wiretaps.

This is about what I expected though. He's not going anywhere until the legislature gives him a boot in the ass out the door.

"I am absolutely certain that I will be absolutely vindicated," he said, before turning the press conference over to his criminal defense lawyers. One of them, Sam Adams Jr., told the press that Christmas week was far too soon for Blagojevich to conclude that he was crippled and leave office, and that he'd consider questions like that closer to Easter.

That line right there just about floored me. Evidently the vultures circling aren't enough for him to throw in the towel. I'm now totally ashamed of my home state and city that spawned this fool.

He should realize that he's fucked and should appoint himself to Obama's senate seat. Much lulz would be had by all. Seriously, what's he got to lose? Nobody likes him and there's a good possibility he's going to jail - plus he's apparently a sociopath ( from some article somewhere ).

The surprise of the century, Blagojevich says he is innocent without going into details. Basically a zero information answer because a guilty or innocent man will declare them self innocent.

And while I am against anyone like Fitzerald from trying the case in the newspapers, it may be time to lay out the evidence that can be admitted into a court of law. Because constitutional rights are constitutional rights no matter what outcome anyone desires, and if Firzgerald's case is based on illegally obtained wiretapping, we have to disregard that evidence. The fact that Blagojevich can appoint someone to fill Obama's seat makes the issue super important, but a compromise could be reached where some other entity makes that appointment. Thus far Blagojevich seems open to that possibility which may buy some time for cooler heads to prevail.

But I would hope a judge makes some rulings on the admissibility of the evidence very soon, and then what is admissible be laid out before the public, because the people of Illinois are owed an answer ASAP, no matter which way the chips falls.

Meanwhile its becoming circus, and Bagojevich's high profile attorney is the clown in chief, the equivalent of a forum troll on a national stage, when we need facts to make valid judgments.

Blogojevich stands accused of verious serious crimes and is really now tainted, I think he owes us a valid defense on the issues rather than merely playing cute.
IMHO, the news conference today did nothing to vindicate Blagojevich leaving his
current behavior in serious doubt as the cancer of confidence grows.

Fitz has been down this road too many times to screw up good Probably cause or Reasonable suspicion.

If the state legislature tries to impeach him before he has been convicted in the criminal courts, there's a very good chance the Gov will get off clean ... even though the legislature does not have to follow the common courtroom / judicial rules and practices (like Reasonable Doubt).

Because much of the evidence will likely be used in the criminal trial, some / most of the legislature's proceedings will be closed door to the press ... any leakage to the press could jeopardize the trial, so there's a chance (though slight) that the facts will stay subterranean until the criminal trial.

He hasn't even been indicted yet; hard to say what the hold-up is.

And, hmmmmmm, doncha wonder where Rahm's been lately? Invisible for almost a week now ... lil' Dave too ... must be the Christmas spirit.

Even if he's found not guilty his political career is over. He couldn't get elected dog catcher in Decatur now.

Exactly the wrong response, if Blogojevich is wrongly being accused over nothing, he deserves exoneration, if there is something valid about the charges, Blogojevich should be removed from office ASAP.

Regardless if what side you are on in the issue, truth and justice are totally independent issues. Only total factual information should be our guides, all else is mere bullshit.

I agree with Harvey, when the chips were down, Blagojevich failed to offer any defense.

They can't afford dog catchers in Decatur.
