Blade come on TV last night. It seems to me that Blade used many of the techniques and special effects that The Matrix got credit for before The Matrix used them. For example when Deacon and Blade were outside and Blade shot at him they had the "bullet time" thing just like Matrix used. Blade was also able to jump from one building to the top of another b/c of his powers long before Neo ever jumped any buildings. And finally Blade had the lobby scene where he had to fight a bunch of bad guys in black when trying to find the main bad dude just like Neo/Trinity had to fight through a lobby of baddies before moving on to the main boss. Blade should have gotten more credit for these things instead of The Matrix I think. Your thoughts?

Blade relied too much on bloody violence to be taken seriously. The Matrix was a much better movie.

True, but I think a lot of those types of effects have been in martial arts movies for years... so they should get credit before Blade does. But I agree with you that The Matrix gets a lot of credit that it shouldn't. Maybe it's just Keanu's start power that did it? :Q

Blade had a black protagonist, which caused white America to subconsciously marginalize it. :D

Blade 2 was much better than Blade and had better special effects, like the opening fight scene. That was tight!

Bullet time was invented for The Matrix and was then sold to use on other things like commercials and movies, even though they came out before Matrix, they were not the original.

The other things you mentioned, jumping buildings and fighting bad guys - you have got to be kidding me. Maybe they ripped off Blade because they used dialogue too! And film! And special effects!

Blade was pretty good, but nowhere near the movie of Matrix 1, on any level. I watched Blade 2 for the first time last night and thought it was pretty good, but there were some bad CGI scenes, mostly when he would jump. The storyline is fairly predictable though. Not as well written as the Matrix.

Ick, no. Blade 2 was all about "look at these cool fight scenes and sh!t." Loose story, etc.

Oh, and who besides me was waiting for the vamp chick at the end to explode in Blade's arms like Dragonetti from the first movie? Damn, I would have been on the floor howling with laughter had they done that.

As for the differences in FX, if you watch the makings-of for both of them, you'll see it really was different stuff. Blade use more conventional effects, no where near as much wire work. Matrix had a LOT of CGI (all bullet time sequences were pure CG) and did pioneer a new technique for shooting it (bullet time). They had a lot in common, but the really high end stuff for each was quite different.
