LOL, and I thought iPad was a stupid name...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-30/rim-is-said-to-plan-tablet-computer-for-november-to-take-on-apple-s-ipad.html

RIM plans to call the tablet Blackpad, according to one of the people familiar with the company’s plans.

Some possible specs:

According to analyst Ashok Kumar with Rodman & Renshaw, RIM will launch a BlackBerry flavored tablet that will sport a large 7-inch touchscreen and will be powered by a snappy 1GHz processor. The rumored tablet is also thought to offer both front and rear facing cameras for video chat.

IMHO, any attempt to duplicate the iPad's success is going to fail. It was a niche product that Apple got first dibs on.

I agree. Although I would probably buy an Android based tablet device if it's under $200 just to muck around with.

There is no way they are calling it the Blackpad. Maybe its just the project name... or the name of the prototype. My brain just can't handle RIM calling it something that utterly ridiculous.

Same here if they ever approve the app market for it. So far they won't let it on tablets. Considering how far BB is from being multimedia friendly I just don't get the point of a BB tablet. BB claim to fame is email, who is going to be wanting to pound out emails on a tablet?

People thought iPad was a rumor name or a joke too, then it launched, and the tech industry gave a collective 'WTF?!'

This.

Blackpad seems too much like a me-too device banged out by a company that is afraid of being called "behind the curve"...

I dunno, BB hasn't played those kind of games in the past...

RIM has over 4000 domain names, this is to prevent parking sites at best. Just as the 9800 won't be a BlackBerry "Torch", it will be a Bold, "Blackpad" will not be the final name.

I say the Blackpad will be a roaring success following in the footstep of products with stupid names such as the Wii and the iPad.

But in all honesty I think the product will succeed or fail due to Google's approval, or lack thereof, of tablet devices for the Android app store.
