blackinches needs to give more information so Bateluer can provide adequate advice. Price range, AMD or Intel, does blackinches prefer an IGP or a dedicated card?

blackinches (here on referred to as "Turd") still needs to describe his budget. If Turd can spend the money on the ST61G4 that Turd referred to, then Turd needs to get it. But Turd would need to have $360 set aside for Turd's case and motherboard. If Turd wants a CPU tack on another $170 or so, $70-100 on memory and $50-80 on a hdd...Soon Turd has an expensive hunk of silicon. Turd needs to learn to speak in first person, as well.

blackinches/Turd should buy a SFF if blackinches/Turd is comparing the shuttle it to a laptop. blackinches/Turd should know that shuttles are compared with desktops, not laptops. Frightcrawler says good day to you.

People who call blackinches a Turd are being mean. Prosaic has been called a turd before, and with more justification than the use of the third person when referring to himself. Prosaic sympathizes with blackinches and expresses hope for world peace -- starting with respectful treatment of those who refer to themselves in the third person.

:D

It just occurred to prosaic that it was possible, however unlikely, that a different person (than blackinches) was using blackinches' account to post this thread -- in which case it would have been wholly appropriate for that person to use the third person.

Prosaic will shut up now because he has projects waiting and is afraid of being referred to as fecal matter.

Uh, I thought it was finger down throat, not tongue in cheek, that caused people to throw up? So sorry.

The primary difference in the 865 models you listed is the G indicates Intel xtreme2 integrated graphics, and since that model-SB65G2 has a $40 rebate making it $256 I'd say it's a great buy. You could add a P4 2.6c, 2x256mb OCZ Enhanced 3200DDR, WD 120gb 8mb cache HDD for a total of 651$ if all purchased from Newegg. You can afford to add a Gainward Ultra/650XP GS GeForce4 TI4200 128MB DDR for $115 and still be at about the price that ST61G4 would cost but the ti4200 will lay a serious smackdown on that IGP and overclocks near ti4600 speeds,being a gainward perhaps past it.

The ST61G4 is lackluster overall thanks to another crappy memory controller being used by ATI, just have a look link I would go with the SB65G2 for price/performance value.

blackinches thanks dapunisher for his helpfulness. blackinches was maybe thinking that blackinches should get an nforce2 xpc because it will primarily be a work computer, and that way will not need to add more components and would be cheaper.

I was ready to suggest the SN41G2 till I read you preferred Intel, so I'll suggest it now:) You could put a 2500+ in it for $90, and the SN41G2 goes for $285@Zipzoomfly.com and has the G4 MX IGP which as you can see from that review I linked is a better overall solution than the ATI at this point, plus the AMD will indeed run most business apps better just as you mentioned.

From Zipzoomfly
SN41G2=$285
2x256mb Kingston HyperX 3200DDR $110
WD 80gb 7200rpm HDD with free vantec rounded cable=$71
total=$466

That should make the basis of a nice compact workstation and really lower the pricepoint. BTW, you can pick up a CD-ROM for $10-$15 in the FS/FT forum, and a mouse&keyboard can be had for next to nothin' too.

Solteks are a heap of junk. Reviews from Australia where SFF is getting huge never give soltek more than 4 or 5.

Atomic MPC : built worse than a backyard sh*thouse

Blackinches, get the SN45G if you want to a AGP card immediately, or get the SN41G2 if you need IGP and an AGP slot.
