I just read about this earlier this morning. I also read that most likely Google won't let it happen so I'm gonna be keeping my eye on this..

Yeah, there's no way this flies with Google unless BB in fact becomes an Android OEM.

I don't see why Google would not allow it if Blackberry went to Google and did whatever it is other phone vendors need to do to get Google Play certified.

And that would be really cool if Blackberry actually did this.

HOWEVER... I don't believe that is going to happen. I suspect if this isn't fake, then some really smart person hacked Google Play onto a Z10.

It would be a support nightmare. I could see them not actively blocking it but I can't see them allowing it officially.

What's so special about the Z10? The screen-to-size ratio is terrible (huge bezels). I'd spend some more on the Nexus 5 any day.

How does this work without the nav buttons?

thats what i could never figure out about thier tablet and phones. they dont even have any type of instructions near the displays, so you just pick it up and go "dafuq?" not a real smart way to sell phone...

You go thru the instructions on-how to use the phone when you set it up. Its made so you cannot bypass them. The Z10 is nice but it has a speaker issue.

No video proof of it actually getting launched? Well then it's probably nothing more than a screen shot taken on an Android and displayed on the z10. The prankster is probably laughing his ass off that any site would run with that story with just screenshots.

Good one

I don't see why Google would say no? I don't even know how much control Google has over the Play store. (not the contents it sells, but the access to the store) Lots of no-name tablets with sub-$100 price tags sell with Play store access. Do they all get permissions from Google?

Someone big as Blackberry tries to use Google Apps without paying would probably bring a lawsuit.

The thing is Google Play Store & Google Apps requires a license & a certain amount of licensing fees to run on an Android phone, the phone manufacturer can use the OS itself but without paying Google they cannot use their built in services nor the apps(from Google) themselves. Yeah so Blackberry, given that they've done this without the consent of Google, may get pummeled to death by an insane number of lawsuits however they can still technically run the thing(like PS emulation or bluestacks for Android on Windows) with Play Store on their phone, of course only after paying Google.

They haven't really done this.

Its just a rumor/leak/whatever it is.

I doubt this is RIM sanctioned.

Well yeah I get that it isn't a done deal but assuming that they're looking to pull this off it certainly is plausible/feasible however it'll come at a price & whatever Google decides it may well be RIM's last hope for saving their dying handset division.

Reasons Google might say know is because Blackberry OS is not Android and it could mean lots of apps won't work properly and Google doesn't want people paying money for apps in it's store to be subjected to a negative experience.

Another reason is maybe Google still sees Blackberry as a competitor and just would rather see them die.

I do believe Google has total control over Google Play and who can and can't use it. ROM makers have even had to remove it from their ROMs to avoid Google's potential wrath. If some no-name manufacture is using Google Play, they either got Google's approval (however that works) or praying Google's lawyers can't find the alley they are selling tablets out of the back of their truck from.

I just don't see this happening without a deal with Google, if it was legit, BB would be making a huge de all about it.

I guess all those Target/Costco/Walmart tablets left me a false impression. Thanks for the explanations. They make sense.

to get google apps, you'll need to pass the CTS (compatibility test suite) along with other things google wants...

i doubt the Z10 passes the CTS
