I have been with Verizon for around 5 yrs and decided to upgrade to storm for $99.00. That extended my contract for 2 yrs. Storm is slow and touch functionality does not work well.

Yesterday, I went to BB and tried the iphone....wow that is great compared to storm.

I am torn between the storm or iphone as I have 30 days to get out of my verizon contract.

Any help from the fellow AT's will be appreciated....I primary use the phone for calling, internet, and checking personal email.

I have an iPhone and love it.

I have never touched a Storm, so I cannot help you there.

I've played with a Storm, and have an iPhone, and feel the iPhone is much better.

I could care less about copy and paste and MMS. It does everything else soooooo well. Internet browsing on 3G is awesome, the apps in the app store are great, theming after jailbreaking is beautiful, etc. etc.

Hell, if you like the way the Storm OS looks, just get the Storm theme for the iPhone :). I currently have the click sound on my iPhone.

I tried the Storm and didn't like the click screen at all. Typing speed was much lower for me than with the iPhone, a full qwerty keyboard, or my suretype keyboard.

Was the storm you used updated? The update they released supposedly fixed the speed issue quite a bit.

I think the storm is kinda cool, but I don't like touch screen keyboards, and I don't think the clickable thing helped. If I were going for a high-end Blackberry, I'd go AT&T and the Bold.

That was my first question. The initial release of the storm was pretty slow and buggy but the software release helped a lot of it.

This is my biggest problem with apple. You have to hack your phone to customize anything about it. I've created themes for my blackberry from the ground up. Best part about it is I can use my themes and still be under warranty :p

So there is a rumor floating around that you can get the storm for 50 bucks due to a promotion that ends on the 24th. Im already obsessed with getting the phone as is and due to my contract being up for renewal and having a 100$ credit im sooo tempted to go get one today. Has anyone heard anything about this supposed email promo? Also any other negatives about the phone?

I had both these phones trying to be happy with current phones, they each have their goods and bads. it really depends on your lifestyle. I have 3 business emails and need to check them all the time, Iphone is crap for this as there is NO UNIFIED mail. One has to check each mail box in order to see what is there. Blackberry unifies everything (mail, text, calls), its REALLY NICE.

As for the storm, its the "gimick" blackberry. It has a bad processor and its kinda slow. If you must have a blackberry, I suggest the bold. The Bold is an amazing phone.

The Iphone is amazing and a kind of anomaly in everything but incoming text, mail and calls to the phone. That is its only major issue. For example: if you have an incoming mail, and audible sound will play and let you know there is new mail to you, when you turn your phone on you have to check each mail box in order to find it, we are talking, atleast 10 clicks minimum if that mail is in the last mail you check (this is if you keep lotsa mail in your box, like i have to in order to keep records).

Anyways, phones can be fun, the blackberry changed my life. I hope the iphone can do something close.

I have a storm currently and love it. update it! UPDATE IT! tell any person who got the iphone the day it came out, was it fast? no it crashed, after updates it got better, your comparing a phone with 2 years of updates to one with 3 weeks. a leaked .83 update came out last night, I am putting it on my phone right now, im sure it will be even faster than it was before.

tbh the click makes the touch screen great, it takes a bit of getting used to though

I look at it as a bonus, I enjoy the hacking portion.

I went in a Verizon store today to play with the Storm, and I have to say I was disappointed. I am not sure if it was running the updated OS, but the biggest downside for me was the horrible click screen abomination.

Now I know some people might like it, but I found it quite unintuitive and I would definitely try it before you buy...

One of the of the partners in my office just got a Storm and I was able to try it out for a few minutes today. Though I could probably learn to live with it, I did not like the click screen.

huh? There were no speed/crashing problems with the iPhone when it came out. The Storm will never be as fast because it doesn't have close to as good hardware inside. You can use the 2 years argument, but one could also say RIM had 2 years to create their iPhone clone. If it didn't have the Blackberry name the Storm would be a phone nobody would care about. Lucky for RIM BB's are popular and they could get away with releasing this phone.

The day the iPhone came out it was far better than this Storm will be probably even 2 years down the road.

wrong, the iphone had trouble the day it came out, it was crashing and stuff, and it needed updates, I remember it clearly, oh and for your ignorant comment:

HONESTLY do you even read what you type, you think that just because the phones have a 2 year release date difference, that BB started the project and had it ready 2 years ago?

oh please, give everyone that is reading your remark a break

people had problems getting iTunes to activate their phones but the phones themselves had no issues, the 1.1 update didn't come out until almost 2 months after the initial launch right? the 1.xx minor updates fixed UI issues, as there weren't any wide spread problems with iPhones crashing.

The iPhone at launch was praised by almost every review you could find. A lot had small issues with it (as with anything) but it was Product of the year according to Time, PC Mag loved it and just about every other article I read gushed over how great it was. The Storm on the other hand at launch has the most mediocre reviews I've seen for such a big/hyped phone launch. A lot of reviewers down-right dislike the phone. You can give RIM all the time in the world, this phone will never be received as well as the iPhone was, even on it's launch day and it's as simple as that. Also RIM has been working on their OS for how long now? Essentially the Storm isn't even really that "new" of a phone, just a BB with a touchscreen. The OS is just a modified 4.8 right?

But the beautiful thing here is it's on Verizon's network so it does have a market. And with the Apple haters plus the Blackberry fanbois - who are as bad as the Apple ones lol. This phone should actually do well. The reality should be exactly what you said though. I played with a storm and it was bad, the click screen is a huge gimmick. I wonder how long it'll take a company to make an iPhone clone that's worth looking in to. I've played with them all, and they're all bad knock-offs.

The iPhone's screen is better, the web is better on it, the Mp3 player (ipod built in) is the best on any phone to date period, and the app store is great. So many games and utilities. The mail client isn't as good and you can't get media text messages, but aside from that the iPod is leaps and bounds ahead of any Blackberry.

I had the misfortune of helping to set up an Instinct this weekend. Stay far, far away.
