I believe its next week (the 21st?)

Can't be any worse than the original Storm I suppose. That phone was horrible.

*shrugs* I think it was just the initial OS that was terrible. Since the updates it's much more comparable to the other BBs.

Oh gosh. Yes it is. I've been running a leaked 5.0 operating system on it for the past month, and this phone feels like it should have when it was released. They just put the terrible, buggy .75 on it and threw it out into the world and expected people to love it, and then only release 1 'official' update. You actually had to do a bit of sleuthing if you had the phone to figure out how to make it run at it's best potential, but the ordinary user wouldn't know where to find operating systems to download for it or how to do so and would more than likely be scared to even attempt such a task.

I'm excited for the Storm 2, but I think I might move to an Android phone when those get released on VZW

It sounds like it might be announced this week and released next. I guess we will have to wait and see. I already have the Tour so chances of me getting a Storm 2 are pretty slim unless it's a really great phone and a HUGE improvement over storm 1.

how is the piezo touch and how does it compare to the pos middle click button of S1?
how easy is it to type (lack of typos) compared to S1 and iphone?
is there lag between clicking something and the device actually responding?
is there wifi and how is it?
how much memory does it come with?
how is the browser?

It's coming out on the 21st, and it's a real solid phone, and OS 5.0 is pure win. It's definitely what the first Storm should have been.

I have trouble trusting the word of a VZW employee with regards to how great their phones are.

I have already been seeing early reviews Crackberry was fond of it (not at all surprisingly), but Walt Mossberg thought so little of it that he did a 2 parter with the Motorola Cliq. I mean, how great can the phone possibly be (I actually read his review, but can't bring it up here at work to link you) if he can't even make a full story?

Gizmodo didn't even get a phone to test, and frankly they are ok with that since based on what they have seen, they are saying they probably would have torpedoed it.

Unless you are unhappy with AT&Ts network AND the iPhone then I wouldn't recommend it. You are talking about switching from a crummy network to a decent network, but from a great phone that does a lot of stuff well, to well... a blackberry. A device whose OS was NEVER designed for touch, and one where the browser is laughable at best.

Yippee, I can check email like a rock star... yay?

Mossberg on the S2:

Uncle Walt,

Overall, I found the Storm2 worked well in my tests. Battery life was decent, with 5.5 hours of claimed talk time, and typing was much improved, though I doubt it will satisfy lovers of physical keyboards.

The browser is still inferior to Apple?s, Google?s and Palm?s. And the traditional BlackBerry interface cries out for a major overhaul in a touch device like this, especially when you add a lot of apps. RIM?s menu and folder metaphor seems tired on this device.

Verizon hasn?t set a launch date or price for the Storm2, but it?s likely to appear in November at around $200.

The interface has had many touch specific updates.

The browser is being dealt with and this is not a secret to anyone who knows anything about the industry.

Folders are great. The iPhone system with everything on multiple pages gets complaints all the time from people I know with the device. And what happens when you get to 9 pages?

I don't understand what that is supposed to mean. Is RIM and Blackberry no longer about email and shining up the Palm interface from 10 years ago?

 I don't think anyone in this sub forum will take you seriously with comments like that.

Agreed. You're either just a palm fanboy, or a BB troll... either way you're not painting the picture of somebody who knows anything about what they're talking about.

LOL, Giz seems to have an axe to grind with RIM

BB thinks you're all MF's

Because the Storm 2 is garbage, and you shouldn't buy it. I mean, these guys clearly have no idea how to make a phone for anyone but their original market of old dudes in suits, nor how to market to anyone but them. And that's their problem, not yours or ours.

Ok, I have played with blackberries in the past, and every one of them has felt basically like a polished up version of the Palm OS from back in the day. The browser is a joke, the OS layout is annoying to use, the icons are not that useful, all in all, it feels like a PDA OS from the 90s. That is just my opinion. And, the comment about the email was because I thought that email was their bread and butter?

It has changed quite a bit; however, it IS still more business-centric. Its not as customizable as Win Mobile or Andriod for sure. But its really not that bad.

I realize that by using the term 'in the past' it implies that I haven't used any of the current generation devices. A few members of my family have the Pearl, and my dad has the flip-phone one which uses a similar OS version to the Pearl. I have played with the Storm 1 at Verizon, wasn't very impressed by the screen, the OS, the acceleromator, the browser, and the generally the fit and finish of the device. I have liked how sturdily built other blackberries are, so it isn't like I am all negative on them. Ok, the Pearl is basically all hate. I don't like the trackball, I do not like the keypad, I don't like how there are 2 letters per key, I do not like the text prediction, I do not like the screen, I HATE how it feels like I am trying to hold a bar of soap (seriously, the thing feels slippery), and coming from a mostly Mac household, I don't like how long it took RIM to release an app that my mother can use to sync her contacts, calendars, all that onto her phone.

Also, it is just her, or does the phone really not differentiate between emails, and texts when it tells you how many new messages you have?
