Blackberry Pearl (Cingular)

Anyone have the Blackberry Pearl with Cingular Wireless? I have some questions about the device and data plans...

Do I need a special Data plan? I had a Media Data plan with my Treo 650. I then got a Motorola SLVR and just switched SIM cards and all still works. Would that service work with a Blackberry Pearl?

Can the background style be changed. I seen T-Mobiles style and it looks better than Cingular's?

You can change the appearance - themes, colours etc easily and the device would be pretty useless without a data plan.

Well I have the Media Net Unlimited plan for $20. I dumped the $40 Cingular Data plan when you get the same thing with the Media Net version.
But with Blackberry on Cingular's Website I see the Blackberry Personal Data plan for $29.99 , gives you access to 10 ISP email accounts. No mention of web browsing or anything else included.

Very confusing.

My friend has one, but he is on T-Mobile. Apparently the T-Mobile version lets you use AIM, ICQ.. etc. It really is a nifty little phone, when my contract runs out in a few months I'm going to get one for sure.

sorry, can't help you with anything cingular specific, but you'll want a large data account regardless. When I had one I used to use around 30mb for browsing only, then email and lots of IM on top of that.

I'll disagree. It's a very nice phone, and you can still do lots with it without a data plan. I have had my Pearl for a couple of weeks now, and I'm super pleased with it. I do have a data plan, but you have to remember that RIM made this Blackberry thinner and sleeker, more for the consumer, so it's use as a phone is as equal as it's use as a corporate device.

I'll go check it out. I never played with it but it looks cool.

Pearl owners: Type <SHIFT KEY> N M L L

To get the N you have to hit the <BN> key twice. To reverse the action, do the same again. This changes the signal meter from graphic bars to the signal strength in DB, where 50 is terrible and 100 is excellent.

Yeah, I think your Theme can imfluence how useful this is. I'm using 'BB Dimension Today Plus'. That and 'Sunday Funnies' are some of the best, other than the T Mobile one, but unless you are internal you have to have a TMO device.
