my wife and I are getting blackberries. we've had the same cell phones for years now and they suck for texting and other cool things, so we're upgrading.

we're total n00bs, i have a question that i don't even fully understand.

a month ago she came to me and asked me to find out the benefits of GPS vs. WiFi in a blackberry. i tried to google it and asked on another forum but i'm still clueless.

the Rogers guy is telling her that he has BB curves available with GPS but not wifi, and that we wouldn't really need wifi anyway because even if we were in our home's "hotspot" we would still be charged for data plan usage.

she thought he was just trying to trick her into buying a specific blackberry so she let him go and will call back another time.

we need advice... we like the BB Curves and cannot afford the Bolds. both of us like the full qwerty keyboard. so we're getting Curves but we just don't know which one to get. allegedly one has GPS and one has wifi. opinions / advice? help

edit: and i know this isn't OT but mods can you please leave it in here for a second so i get some views

8310 = GPS
8320 = WiFi
8300 = Neither

I have a Bold and it has both, but WiFi is OK for browsing when in a zone that has it, and GPS is of marginal use for me at least.

Rogers said they'd charged you with their data plan for using your Wifi hotspot? :confused: I hate them more and more everyday...

yeah. i can't see myself needing or using GPS much either.

i don't like douchebags that try to trick you into thinking something is better than something else just to get rid of a certain product. know what i'm sayin? frickin Rogers. we would go with Telus but allegedly she has a plan through Rogers that is epic and impossible to beat.

$10 says that when they finally sell us the damn things the plan she had worked out will suddenly be non-existent.

In addition to those model #'s, the other thing to remember is that with BB you have to have a data plan AFAIK. I am with Verizon and it's $30/mo for my Blackberry Information Server account with unlimited data.

I have a Curve with a CDMA provider. It does not have WiFi, but data coverage is so good, I don't miss it. My new provider has the GPS locked on the Curve, but my old provider did not. It was too much trouble to use GPS on the phone. Screen was too small to be functional while driving, unless your passenger looked at it for you.

Yea i have the 8330 on Verizon and it doesnt have WiFi but with the data plan its fast enough. I even use Opera Mini on it. I dont use the GPS services however since Verizon charges for it.

Bikini is only a passable option if it is a thong bikini, and even then just barely passable.

Naked is the only real way to get ATOT approved pics.

welp, the Mrs just ordered 2 Blackberry Bolds instead. Rogers knocked $50 off because of all the phonecalls we have made to them thus far. go figure.

BB Bold, here we come.

i'll work on getting you those pics, boys ;)

Bold is hottt.. GPS Wifi and 3G you wont be disappointed. Its got a real nice screen too, I love mine. Make sure you get an unlimited data plan or you will pay out the nose when you get emails/browse the internet.

been reading up on crackberry.com a bit, already downloaded the 1.90 software update for teh Bold... anyone have any advice as far as which OS to use? reading on crackberry, it seems that some users prefer version 1.85.......
