Blackberry going away?????

what you have is a company that peddles nothing more than someone else's patents. They are not exercising these after Blackberry became successful.

It's just patent extortion by a lawsuit company that bought up the bad patents.

Some of the patents have already been overturned and the patent office has said the rest will probably be invalidated too.

What I don't get is how NTP thinks RIM can simply "shut off" service.

They aren't involved in day to day use of their devices are they? ie they're not routing traffic or anything like that?

Viper GTS

Going away? Think about it this way: You're a lawyer for NTP, do you want RIM to get rid of BBs in the US, or do you want a shitload of money? This is all just talk aimed at getting RIM to pay.

The relay (the one for NA resides here in waterloo) actually routes the traffic. One fo the arguments RIM used was that the system under question was not physically in the US, thus US patents are not applicable, but it didn't fly.

Anyway, whatever happens at least it should be resolved soon. Both the judge and the USPTO are supposed to issue final rulings in Feb.

The great thing about all of this? They have already said that they will not shut down Goverment service of RIM Blackberry - even if they do shut down public use.

let's say they do shut it down....

any solution out there that's as good as the BES?

I heard about Good, but never tried it.

Also, Treo 700w users, which server app. do you use to push emails to your corporate users?
