Hi,

I'm thinking of getting blackberry 7750.

How is it compared to regular PDA's?

This will be my replacement phone mainly, but the added feature of having PDA integrated would be very nice.

any feed back are welcome.

thanks

I work at a wireless company and the blackberry (usually whichever model is the most recent) is the choice phone/PDA for just about everyone in management. For what it's worth.

I have one (Just verified, it is a 7750.)

Anyway, as a phone they're pretty difficult but they work well for business communication. You can get bluetooth adapters + headsets for them, our CEO is constantly on his. We spend so much money every month on voice & data plans it isn't funny.

As a fellow geek?

They are NOT a PDA replacement, and not something to buy as a geek unless you have a need for it. They aren't flashy, they aren't fast, the displays aren't that great, they just don't compare to a Pocket PC or anything like that.

But they are very, very good at what they do.

You really need BES at your disposal to make full use of them. With that though wireless data is a nice bonus, albeit slow.

Can it be operated with regular wireless LAN? (A, B or G)
or it must be subscribed to data communication plan?

We have them for our IT division and they are pieces of fvcking shit. I hate it with every tired muscle in my body. Yet, we need them since we have a BES and it's mostly our Nextel service that sh!ts out very often. God I hate Nextel.

It pulls its own IP address from the cell towers. I can browse internet anywhere I get cell signal.

Blackberry Enterprise Server. It is used to sync up with our Exchange server for e-mails and calendar entries.

A a competitor to Crackberry, I would suggest a PocketPC or an Ace (altough they haven't compeltely figured out all the bugs yet). You could get a Treo600, but its mem is kinda small, and your browser will crash on heavy pages.

The thing is that I don't actually need PDA. But service provider called Telus has a great deal on this model. When switch plan from ROGERS AT&T, Telus will get you free blackberry with 3 yr contract, in addition to that, 1 yr free voice plan.
My cell phone needs to be replaced anyways. So I'm looking at this option. But I have to pay $200 contract termination penalty though.
Is it worth to pay $200 penalty for blackberry deal? That's what I want to find out.

What do you use your PDA for? I have a Blackberry 7230. I just use it for web surfing, email, breakout (game), alarm clock. I guess I don't use it's full potential, but I don't have a busy or important schedule.

they extended the promotion period to Dec 31. I still got some time to think about.
I may have to go and check it out.
