I just saw the other Black Widow thread tonight and was "seriously" going to post these pics lastnight but got too tired. Sorry for the 2 blurry pics. The other two are decent ;)

I've seen and handled many Black Widow spiders from CA, AZ, NV, NM and FL but this one from TN has to be the biggest and has the most oddly placed red coloring scheme I've ever seen on the top & bottom/abdomen.

I've noticed this Widow for about a mth now and it's the first one I've seen in TN since moving here 1.5 years ago....... It hangs underneath the overhang of the roof. I feed it from time to time, tossing up grasshoppers and crickets into the web. This past Sunday night, I saw a nice big horsefly and flicked it off the wall and threw it in the Widows web and took a couple pics..........

Horsefly was about 1.25 inches long.
I did get bitten by a Black Widow once. Don't know how and did'nt feel it, but I was around many at the time. That night hours later, I had a bad fever and was sick as hell. In the morning after taking a shower, I noticed a red vein on my right leg/right calf area. The red vein went to my knee, curved around to the inside of my leg 3/4 of the way up and then stopped . It was blood poisioning of course. I was fine in the morning from the fever but panicked when I saw that red line running up my leg from the bite.

Never went to the hospital because it subsided within' a day. If the symptoms had gotten worse, I would've gone.

Hehe, you're nuts for keeping black widows around.

Normally I don't mind, but every time I see a black widow I will kill it. Same goes with a BRS (although I haven't seen one yet).

I do have a couple of huntsman, wolf, and a couple of other spiders around though, I don't usually bother them. :)

I've been bit by a horsefly, aggressive bastards. I'd take the black widow over the fly - at least they stick to a corner and don't come after you.

This is an older Black Widow pic I have posted before. Scary part is I find them under the handle on my recycle bin, so at least twice that I know of I have carried the bin to the curb with this just inches from my hand.

I have been catching horse flies and feeding them to spiders for years :)

I have never seen a black widow though.

I usually feed horse flies to those huge black and yellow Garden Spiders.

Nice work!

OP, are you wearing a Mickey Mouse ring (first pic)?

Yep, got it from Disney World. It's my $20.00 silver wedding ring :)
I've tried talking my wife into Titanium/Platnium bands but she says she's content and just loves our wedding rings. Going on 5 years married now.

As for the Horsefly, that's really just a medium sized one. In FL I used to see them over double that size and have a blue/purple color to them. They were close to the size of a hummingbird **LOL**

That's a big horsefly.

We actually get lots of them as stowaways. You know it's ridiculous when a microphone on stage can pick up the buzzing around. The biggest one I've seen was every bit of an INCH long!

I'm glad I haven't been bitten by one of those monsters. I'd feed it to a spider too.

EDIT: Funny thing is it seems like the worst offenders come from Port Canaveral Florida! :p

i dont mind bugs and spiders. only ones i kill are roaches and crickets. and i only kill those if i see them in my house. hard to not see roaches occasionally in az, they are everywhere. i have a spider farm on the side of my house tho, kids love to watch the webs develop.
