hehe. Do you have a container which would not allow the baby spiders to get out?
Yea', I'm keeping them in a small plastic container with very thin knife slits in the lid. Enough for air, but too narrow for the spiders.

Actually, I have been bitten by a spider, just not sure if it was a Widow.
I was feeding diff. types of spiders in my garage about 10 years back including many black widows, and later that evening I was throwing up and had flu like symptoms. It was'nt 'till the next morning I noticed a bite on the side of my right calf while taking a shower. It hurt to the touch and was dark red.
From the bite was a dark red vein that traveled up across the back of my knee and up the inside of my leg. Had to be blood poisoning. I was watching it carefully and if I got any worse, I would've gone to the hospital.
I was fine later that night, and all the symptoms went away by the next day.

Black Widow Spider bites manifest themselves as extremely severe cramps as it attacks the nervous system -
if it's on the chest near the heart they can be fatal.
Bite Me!
It looks as if they are evolving with their 'Red Display', the ones I remember always had their warning hourglass on their belly,
not on their backs.
I bet that I have killed several hundred of ther damn things, when I was in high school
we lived in El Centro, California (mid '50's through early '60's) and one afternoon alone
I killed over 50 that were in the overhang of the roof around our house.
Hairspray & a lighter are impressive to them, they love it.

Am I the only one whose arm hair feels like black widow spiders crawling around thanks to this thread?

Let me get this straight...the male escaped...does that mean the thousands of tiny babies are just going to crawl around your house? Or do you plan to fortify their enclosure?

Stupid question, but aren't the babies going to be able to get through the holes of that cage? Hundreds of baby black widows seems.... creepy...

I'm keeping the small container with the eggs in the garage. I'm not even sure they'll hatch. If the male escaped too soon, all the eggs may be infertile.Originally posted by: GTaudiophile

I'll keep this thread updated with pics if the egg sacks hatch or not.
If they do hatch, I'm letting the ones that survive cannibalism, loose in the garage after they get so big eating other baby spiders I feed them.

Good luck getting a girl to spend any time in your home with those!
My wife does'nt like the idea, but I assured her that they would'nt get out![]()

heres a question, how are you going to know if the eggs have hatched yet when you put them into a container that you can not see through the side walls?
I'm just imaging you frolicking along and opening the cottage cheese container expecting to see 2 eggs, only to be attacked by hundreds of baby black widows
