Black & White locking up on new computer

My son's new computer won't run B/W without locking up. This is after a fresh format and install of win98se. His computer specs

2000xp
768 megs ddr ram
shuttle AK32L motherboard
ATI radon 9000 pro vid card
Phillips Acustic Edge sound card
8x burner
50x cd rom
300 watt power supply

Used to run fine, only changes are motherboard,ram,processor and power supply. Previous processor,800 duron, sdram and 250 watt power supply. Lastest ATI drivers were tried as well as dx9 with no change.

All other games seem to run fine.

Did you patch B&W? There's a patch that came out summer before last.

I just foundthe patch and downloaded it late last night. Will have my son install it and get back here with results.
