I like to actually enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and I usually have to drive an hour or two to get back home. The midnight opening was fine. I had enough time to make it home and then go out.

This Black Thursday 9PM is going to ruin that. D:

I don't leave the house on Friday. Moving Friday to Thursday night isn't gonna get me out.

Black Friday is BS.

I stay away not only from stores but from main roads all together.

People are idiots.

I think it's disgusting. I'm all for Free Enterprise and all that... but leave the holidays alone. All you are doing is building discontent with your employees who have to work. Leave the holidays alone.

I actually will not go to a store for anything but food until mid-Jan. There is simply no compelling reason to be in that mess.

Amazon is my best friend.

Black Friday deals are just cheaper models built specifically for the one day sale.
Save you money, sanity and time. Stay home.

The deals have sucked the past few years once Black Friday really became "popular." I miss the days of all the tons of stuff for FAR

No, the bad idea is giving a damn about Black Friday at all. Eat your turkey, watch some football and enjoy the holiday. No one is forcing you to go be a consumer sheep at midnight.

I never understood people complaining about BF having bad deals.

Yes, they've turned quite bad for electronics, but it is indeed great deals for name brand clothes, small appliances, household stuff, and general stuff sold at malls.

Is it worth the clusterfvck? No for most of us. But I don't blame general populous who like shopping (like typical girls).

I agree. There's a movement here to get universal holiday shopping legalized. Right now stores can only open if they're in a designated tourist area. Though there's plenty that already defy the law. It's actually quite entertaining to see the amount of people that flood into the plaza behind my house on Christmas morning. The only thing open is a Shoppers Drug Mart and a Tim Hortons, and they're surprisingly not going to Tim's. I guess people can't be bothered with relaxing or spending time with their family anymore. The yuppies have to be go, go, go 365 days a year. It's nice to have a few days where I can sit on my porch and not have to listen to all that traffic. Those days are getting fewer and fewer. :(

I don't care that it's earlier, but I feel bad for the employees that are forced to work. It's a holiday, let people enjoy it with their families.

Companies should pay at least 2x hourly wages for the people that not only have to deal with the ugly BF shopping craze but also give up time with their families on a holiday.

I read a piece in the WSJ a little while back where they analyzed deals over the course of the year and compared them to black friday deals for the last 5 years. The conclusion was there was black friday has no better deals than any other time of the year. They were often the same stuff they were already putting on sale the month before.

I certainly haven't seen any must buys in recent memory in any of the fliers. Like most things, the marketers have caught on the consumer behavior and adapted.

Not true. Some deals I get are only available on BF. What is true is that the items are usually low end models. The HDTV I want will never be a Black Friday deal, so I can buy it anytime it's on sale.

PS: I load up on DVD/BR movies, Flash drives and other items that have super low prices.

I knew it was a matter of time before they pushed the sales to thursday. In a few years, they'll be opening up at 4 am, Thanksgiving day in an effort to outdo each other. Quite ridiculous, if you ask me.

I remember Black Friday 10 years ago used to be fun. My mom and I woke up at 4-5am (because virtually all stores opened between 5-7am), and was able to get in line and get what we wanted. Back then, lines didn't wrap around the store, and you sure as hell didn't need to camp out 24 hours in front of the store to reserve your spot in line. Back then, it was just a busier than normal shopping day.

But yea, because of the staggered start times of stores, you could easily get what you want, and jump to the next store.

Nowadays, it's not worth the hassle. You want any of the doorbusters? You better be in line and camp out for 10 hours or more. Sorry, my time is worth more than that for saving a few dollars on an item. Gone are the days where you can get big ticket items at more than one store because EVERYONE starts at the same time.

I just hate what Black Friday has become. I seriously wish one of these retailers would come to their senses next year and just open at a reasonable time (like 6 am). But it won't happen. It's hard for me to care anymore though, since I'll be working that thursday anyway.
