Asked a general question in General Hardware about Canon printers and got a lot of good info, but now need a very specific input.

Purely in terms of black text print quality, how does the Canon ip1500 compare to the ip3000?

Both have the same resolution (4800 X 1200) but ip3000 has more ink jets.

Speed is not of any consequence here.

I am just interested in Black text print quality.

Thanks in advance.

The iP3000 uses pigmented black. You want to check whether the iP1500 uses a dye black. One hint would be whether it uses the black ink whilst printing photos or not.

That's what makes the iP3000 text so impressively high contrast. If the 1500 has it too, then there's hardly going to be a difference to tell - apart from the speed.

Anyway, if you're contemplating printers to buy, get the 3000, no question there.

The 1000-2000 Pixmas use the BCI-24 series of tanks - very small volume of ink per tank (less than 10ml). The 3000 and up (except for the 6000 and 8500) use the BCI-3e black for text which has 27ml of ink and up to 30ml in some 3rd party tanks - and the BCI-6 series for color. A set of tanks for my 3000 lasts me 4 to 5 months.
