Black sticker (or seal?) punctured, is it serious?

I received a warranty replacement. The drive has a black sticker punctured. Would there be any adverse impact because of this? Would that void the warranty for a possible future return, if the drive happens to fail within the warranty period?

Thanks for any help.

Not sure what is under there? Screw maybe?

Reading the warranty is void if part on the label makes me think the drive would be rejected under warranty.

Best bet is to contact WD for another replacement to be safe.

Hi,

I have no idea what is behind that circle black sticker. But the warning on the label is pretty clear. I left a msg to WD but received no answer so far.

Called WD warranty. The rep told me "if the drive was shipped, it means it had passed QA". However she also confirmed that I won't be able to return that drive if ever it fails in the future, because of that broken sticker.

WD also said that as soon as they receive any drive returning from warranty, they put it in a machine to wipe existing content. I don't need to worry about data confidentiality.

As a compensation for the unfortunate extended delay, WD agreed to send me a pre-paid label to return the drive.

That should be just a sticker to cover the holes of the Torx screw(similar to the exposed ones on the right). It should function similar to the void warranty stickers whereby removing it to unscrewing the Torx screws would mean voiding the warranty. It doesn't affect the drive's function and fingers crossed that you never have to RMA it(the value of my data is of higher precedence than the warranty).

Not sure why go through all that trouble of concealing when there's always at least one Torx screw underneath the white label; removing the white sticker would be an obvious sign of tampering.

You've probably already gotten lethal exposure to the toxic storage medium they use. You're basically waiting for your death now.

try to make WD acknowledge they sent u a drive with 1 sticker which was broken.

Technically u cant do anything with just 1 sticker, u need the others to pull the lid off the drive.

Once u got logs of it saved in email... save it for incase u do need to do an RMA.
That way u can forward all the conversations u had when u got that drive with 1 broken seal.

Usually when u have this much history front loaded, WD depending on the rep's mood will replace it.

Such a trivial reason to void the warranty. Like aigomorla said, you can't pull the lid by removing that screw. in fact, you ain't even gonna pry the lid up enough to break the seal with permanently warping it.
