I'm not sure, but if I was to guess I'd say either a birth mark or your drool.

With the general dull look of the motherboard I'm guessing they spray it with some protective coating. The area in question probably had some flux residue on it still which kept the coating from sticking? Just a guess, but at least it sounds logical too me.

Have you tried the motherboard yet?

If it doesn't look or smell burnt in hand it's probably just the coating I'd imagine. If your paranoid you could always return it for an exchange.

If it was me and it didn't look or smell burnt or damaged I'd probably give it a try at least.

mojo fungus , return to sender . No , I kid . Whatever it is should not effect mobo , but you wont know until you run it .

Flux. Prob got a cold solder and had to be done manually. Even when you clean it, it sometimes finds a way to return.

Isopropyl Alcohol
