Hey all,

Anyone else having this problem? I can't even install AMD drivers on an Asrock H87 motherboard with an XFX R7 260x when the HDMI montior is plugged in to the AMD graphics card. Catalyst installer just crashes.

If I plug into the Intel IGP, I can install AMD drivers. However, after rebooting, I just have a black screen. This happens with both AMD's latest official drivers and their latest beta.

Anyone encountered this problem? I think it's some weird combo between Windows 8.1 and HDMI, nvidia had some similar driver issues but was able to handle it a bit better.

Sounds like this issue.
"Driver installation might result in a black screen when installing on a Dual AMD Radeon R9 295X configuration under Windows 8.1. The issue can be overcome by rebooting the PC; upon reboot the display driver will be installed. The remaining Catalyst components can then be installed."

Well, it's not a Radeon R9 295x, it's an R7 260x.

Catalyst installer will just boot you out to a Windows log on screen (every time) when attempting to install it. The base driver appears to install, but the rest of the catalyst components after it don't.

Attempting to install the driver using the Intel IGP will then just result in a blank screen when booting into windows after that.

This is for black screen on driver installation:

Uninstall the previous driver before doing it. Remove any leftover by using registry cleaner and deleting the AMD folder on both system directory main folder and "Program Files" folder.

Execute the driver installer and check on it every option you want.

Wait a moment with the black screen. In two or three minutes turn off the computer by pressing the power button on the pc case. Just press power and wait for the computer shutdown by itself, do not hold down the power button or plug off the pc from the wall.

When you boot back the pc, everything will be installed.
For having black screen after driver installation, try another older driver model. Driver Fusion can also help with your problem too.

I think I figured it out!

Due to the thickness of the HDMI cable, and the way the case is built, the cable wasn't fully inserted. It seems the loose connection was making the driver go crazy when it was installed.

Actually looks like I spoke too soon! It still can't properly install the drivers when hooked up via HDMI.
