I got a new 9600XT vid card and now, when I boot up, all I get is a black screen on my LCD until Windows starts, then the image appears fine. If I plug a CRT in to the DSUB output on the video card, it will show the boot screen fine. What am I doing wrong here?

I use the Radeon 9600 Pro, but not with DVI. However I am interested in getting DVI monitors. So... what is the deal with this? I don't like the sound of it!!

I have looked into it and unfortunately we are all kinda stuck. There are three options.

1) Plug in both the VGA and DVI. The Vid card outputs the BIOS to VGA, but windows to DVI. If your monitor can support both inputs then it will auto switch between them as necessary.

2) Get a DVI-I cable which is capable of carrying both the Analog and Digital signal through it. Make SURE your monitor has a DVI-I input and not merely a DVI-D. Google if you don't know how to tell.

3) Get another video card. nVidia seems to work better with DVI/dual display.

Best of luck!

You can also try going to display properties, setting, advance, display, and set you LCD/dvi at primary and turn off all other display after you turn them on and set them as secondary, restart, this seem to work for my ati 8500 with the dell 2001fp. Same for the 9800pro.

You can also work around this with drivers, try installing another driver, perhap try the omega drivers, it seem to work for some..,

Sounds like your card needs a BIOS upgrade, somehow it is not detecting that the only display hardware is connected to the DVI port, and initializing the display accordingly.
