Black screen on laptop

It's a MSI A6005. I'm trying to fix it for a relative, so I have absolutely no knowledge about this computer.

When I turn on the laptop he screen is absolutely black. I tried to turn up the sound to see if it's even loading to windows, but I hear nothing. I connected the display out to my monitor, but it still shows nothing.

The power button has the blue led on, and the battery icon has a very faint greed led. I'm not even sure how to down off the computer, since if I hold the power button the led is still on. The computer is only a few months old so it still has warranty, but I want to see if there's anything I can do first.

The best place to start is pulling RAM and testing with only 1 DIMM in a slot at a time. Test both slots by themselves with each RAM stick. Pull the battery out and see what the system does without a battery. Try pulling the CDRW/DVDRW drive as well, power the system on with only bare min components.

Do you have a way of testing the voltage out of the AC adapter?

Ok I did everything you said, but it didn't fix anything. I don't have a way to test my voltage. I'll just try to RMA it.
