If elected, I'm afraid DeSantis might try to bring back Segregation.
Based on what?
And who would support that notion with him? Congress? The Judiciary?

Like the Don, he isn't a one man wrecking ball that can make changes like that all on his own. If he attempted that by EO, it would get shot down in the courts immediately and before it could take effect.

Segregation by class or denomination seems more likely than by skin color, but I don't see those as possibilities either.

Pohemi420,

I have zero confidence in the courts.

I believe you are assuming far too much. Judging from how voters in this country express their sentiments, I doubt the courts will stridently defend the rights of People of Color.

All DeSantis would need to do is push his biased approach to school books containing anything he dosen't like beyond Florida. Many individuals in this country already believe the U.S. does too much for Black people. DeSantis' position would delight them.

The courts? Hah!

Blacks basically lost their guaranteed right to vote in 2013 when the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to render moot Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

What Section 5 did was require nine states, mostly in the U.S. South, to pre-notify the Dept. of Justice before making any changes to their state voting laws.

As soon as that ruling went down several states began passing voter suppression laws.

This is why I will always dislike Bernie Sanders and AOC. Instead of pushing for a new voting rights bill, these two spent their time cramming so much into their Build Back Better bill, they doomed it to failure.

A new voting rights bill would have ensured Dems would enjoy more voter support in the future and it's possible some of what was in that BBB bill would have passed in some fashion.

When AOC was first elected, I was happy as she made a big deal about Mexicans held in detention centers under Trump. But then embarrassed herself by trying to end the Trump government shutdown.

She proceeded to stomp through the Russell Senate Building on a mission to find Mitch McConnell and hand deliver a letter demanding he help end Trump's shutdown. She never found him.

When it comes time to do the most good, AOC would rather grandstand. It's comical that she thinks she be in charge of everything.

Zinfamous, I know you meant well. But Blacks know Uncle Tom of Uncle Tom
s Cabin is actually a decent man. Unless you mean, Clarence Thomas.

To be fair he said "try" ... and by "try" he might have meant dog-whistling the shit out of some rhetoric like that, throwing empty bones to the base.
But yea, even at that it sounds too far out.

I know some are wedded to the notion that Socialism will solve all of our problems, but I do not agree.

I never thought Bernie could win a national election and I quickly tired of AOC and her stunts. Give me Al Franken any day.

This is why we needed another voting rights bill:

I will try to emphasize with the kids every time.
Suppose there was no racial motivation to it.
I'd still have to explain it to the kids afterwards, especially how its blown up in the fucking media.
How do I explain this to a bunch of kids, pure of heart, that leaves the black kid without a sense or thought of "Am I a victim?" and the other kids "Is he different from us?". I mean I can see its doable, but it'll take an angle and some teacher-talent.

edit: and would it even be legal under DeSantis rule?

I would completely ignore it, let the kids enjoy the game and have fun. Screw the stupid adults who are determined to ruin EVERYTHING!!!!!

Then the adults better get on fixing shit so they don't have to explain the current state of affairs to kids anymore
Completely ignoring it IS fixing it. We were all murdered as children, made to conform to insanity so our parents could be spared the humiliation of being seen as personally responsible us misfits and what a wonderful job they did. They raised a bunch of Stockholm Syndrome victimizers. “Instruct those ignorant bastards before they are cast out as perpetrators of racist micro-aggressions and God knows what manner of message nuanced humiliation.”
