Black Ops Multiplayer Stuttering-Wasted $60?

Hey guys, I just bought Black Ops. As soon as it was ready I dove into multiplayer only to find out that the lag was incredibly terrible. I've tried many "Black Ops Lag Fix" help videos on Youtube. None of them helped one bit. Now, the game runs fine on max settings in combat training. I'm desperate guys, I was really looking forward to playing multiplayer.

how does other multiplayer games perform? because it kinda sounds like it's your connection and not the game.

I measured my speed on speedtest.net and came up with 33ms ping. And its definitely not my connection because whenever I shoot someone the time between me shooting and the impact on an enemy is almost dead on. Thanks for replying.

Do a ping test. Pull up the command prompt and type: ping -t google.com

See if your time=xxms are steady and consistent.

On the other hand it could be a lack of horsepower. My son's laptop has the same issue of running combat fairly smoothly but is horribly choppy in Multi Player. The reason is the CPU cant handle it.

I played the game all of 30min and uninstalled it. Was TERRIBLE. When you can start out a map and throw a nade to the OTHER SIDE its time to hire better map designers.

My brother gifted it to me so good i didn't waste money on it.

Its the game. Not your connection. The game is a horrible port. It stutters for everyone.
Not so, it runs smooth as butter on my machine and all of my friends machines that are up to the task.

Is it a great game? No.

Is it a horrible game? No.

Let the flaming and hate continue.....

It IS the game, just because you or anyone you know never had an issue with it doesn't mean it's not the game. Just have a look at the Steam subforum for COD:BO, even some 9 months after release its still full of lag/stutter threads and "lagfix" threads. The game is a shockingly bad console port that's extremely CPU dependant and even then YMMV as I've seen people on I7's have issues with it.
And before anyone questions it, yes I do own the game (since release mind you) and quit playing it about 3 months after release when I realized Treyarch are too busy making map packs for 15 bucks to try and fix their hellish port.
