Well, it's not that surprising. There is a new moon every 29.530 days, on average. 4 months have 30 days; 7 have 31. So the chances of any given black moon falling on Halloween are 1 in (7+(4+7)*(1-.530)), or a little less than 1 in 12. If you allow the black moon to occur on Halloween in any time zone on Earth, the chances go up even more, about 47% I think.

New moon is absent moon. It's gallivanting on the sunny side. There shouldn't be a name for it.

That's pretty cool, and to make it even more spooky Halloween falls on a Friday the 13th this year. This won't happen again until 2102.

I love Halloween, I had some cool birthday parties when I was young near it.

Was like a pre Halloween warm up, on the 29th.

I'm pretty sure you're joking, but just in case. All hallows eve falls on the 31st. Been that way since I think the 1930's.

Ah!

in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, it is more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain, which comes from the Old Irish for "summer's end".[35] Samhain (pronounced SAH-win or SOW-in) was the first and most important of the four quarter days in the medieval Gaelic calendar and was celebrated in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man.[38][39] It was held on or about 31 October – 1 November and a kindred festival was held at the same time of year by the Brittonic Celts; called Calan Gaeaf in Wales, Kalan Gwav in Cornwall and Kalan Goañv in Brittany. For the Celts, the day ended and began at sunset; thus the festival began on the evening before 1 November by modern reckoning.

I think it was the 30's that the U.S adopted Halloween.

Ah, Halloween, so we should be seeing isles of Christmas stuff on store shelves in a couple weeks then with 1 or 2 isles of overpriced halloween candy again and some cheap foam decorations for only $30 + a piece.

Maybe this year I should venture into the grave yard with my Seek thermal imager and EMF meter. Although, ghosts/spirits are not going to just hang around a grave yard.

I was in B.J's about a week ago and right there on the rack with inflatable Halloween yard ornaments like giant zombies the Christmas trees were already up. Three full months to Christmas.

I wish I had my phone on me when I was at Canadian Tire the other day, a Christmas tree and a pumpkin practically next to each other. Freaking hilarious.

At least wait until Halloween is done before putting out the Christmas stuff!

As ol Charlie Brown would say " I can't stand it, I just can't stand it". However it allows people to spread out the spending more in line with their pay checks rather than try to bulk spend within a shorter time frame since few people even save money for Xmas anymore as retailers stopped doing layaways. No doubt retailers gain a lot more than they otherwise would if they waited.
