Black Macbook w/ stuck DVD

yes it is one of 'those' DVD's...

anyways, it's stuck in the drive, it wont eject, but it will play (pretty awesome to accidently hit the eject button, hear it try to eject, then it fails, and loads and starts to play)

Im just wondering how one would go about getting it out of the drive... I'm competent in mechanicals so I am not afraid to tear it apart... but I want to know if there are any instructionals online for this particular issue...

ifixit.com to dismantle the macbook.

Another option is to fold a piece of paper to make a sort of hook, and try and pull the disk out as you hit the eject button.

Is there an Apple store in the area? I am sure they can get that taken care of in like 5 minutes.

because walking into an apple store, or a certified location (one of these around, no apple store) and saying "hey, a full length porno dvd is stuck in my drive... help" is what I want to do (though im sure it happens all the time honestly)

AH, that is what you mean by it being one of 'those'. I thought you meant one of those little DVDs that you stuck in there by accident.

Yea... let's see what we can do to get it to 'come' out, if you know what i mean. I mean, really 'penetrate' the problem to see if we can solve it. You probably won't have to come at the drive from 'behind', but we should leave our options open. 🙂

if only there was a way to lubricate it out... It is to tight to fit my fingers into, so i have to figure out something smaller in order to coerce the end goal out of it.. It sure does make a lot of noise when i accidently try and eject something out of it...

When I used to have a powerbook, I had a disc get stuck. The phone people told me to hold down the trackpad button during startup...or was it the space bar? I think it was the trackpad though. You might try that and see if it works.

Not sure if it still exists but there use to be a little button that you could press with a paperclip along the side of the drive that would force the disc to eject.

If I remember correctly, its on the far right side but could easily be the far left.

My ex's macbook had the same thing happen with a CD-R, you have to tear the thing apart and take it out. It wasn't that difficult with the ifixit instructions. Took me like 15 minutes.

Couple of things too that you could try is look at the slot and see if the top is bent in the middle, it can cause the disc to get stuck, use a screwdriver or hard plastic stick to been it up a bit and it should come out

This thread delivers.

Nothing like voiding your warranty to avoid the embarrassment of mac geeks recovering your pRon.

I do applaud you for supporting the porn industry and actually buying the dvd. You're a gentleman and a scholar.

Have a female friend take in for you.

Hide nearby a video it.

So much win.

LOL. I think you're thinking of a floppy drive.

I miss those :awe:

Well, first off disable DVD autoplay.

You should be able to use a postitnote or some tape on a piece of cardboard to grab the disc during an eject attempt and give it the little extra boots it needs to get out.

But then it's time to consider a new DVD drive. The load/eject motors in the slot loaders seem to get tired of life faster than the tray loaders used to. 🙁

Holding any mouse button or trackpad button down during startup in OS X triggers a standard OS eject request. I doubt it will be more successful than the eject key. It's just for situations where the computer has failed in bad ways and the software eject does not function.

You are right, but I thought it might be worth a try anyway. Hopefully he gets it unstuck. I'm really refraining from making a lot of bad jokes about bad aim while watching said porno. Must. Resist.

Somebody suggested the slot got bent (haha), but I don't see how that would happen unless the whole laptop sustained damage. Wouldn't it be more likely that the spindle was just stuck in the up position?

He should consult a doctor if it has been like that for more than 4 hours.
