Astronomers announced on Wednesday that at last they had seen the unseeable: a black hole, a cosmic abyss so deep and dense that not even light can escape it.
“We’ve exposed a part of our universe we’ve never seen before,” said Shep Doeleman, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and director of the effort to capture the image, during a Wednesday news conference in Washington, D.C.

If we were to throw a brick in there would the whole thing start wobbling?

I watched his Grand Canyon video. He's building his own dams, some substantial in size. I would not wish to live downstream from him.
I'd imagine living upstream from him is no walk in the park either, especially if you property is getting flooded.

I note that this black hole was chosen, even though it is very far away, becasue it is among the larger ones and hence a bit easier to get image data. How big? Apparently, that black hole is wider than our entire solar system.
