Well I liked it because:
1. Very few "big names" to detract from the experience. Ewan MacGregor was the only one I could immediately recognize and he blended in well. Compare to Saving Private Ryan where you keep getting reminded that it's just Tom Hanks running around a field.
2. All of the soldiers are still "kids" that are younger than I am. I couldn't imagine going through that at 18-20.
3. This incident happened when I was 13/14 and I remember hearing about it on the news very clearly.
4. I could really identify with the characters, mainly b/c of their age, but also b/c I know that's exactly how I'd feel if I was out there. The line "tell my parents....that I fought well" almost brought tears to my eyes.
