I watched it yesterday.. what was all the hype about? It was based on a true story... it just seemed like any other war movie to me.. did I miss something?

Well I liked it because:
1. Very few "big names" to detract from the experience. Ewan MacGregor was the only one I could immediately recognize and he blended in well. Compare to Saving Private Ryan where you keep getting reminded that it's just Tom Hanks running around a field.

2. All of the soldiers are still "kids" that are younger than I am. I couldn't imagine going through that at 18-20.

3. This incident happened when I was 13/14 and I remember hearing about it on the news very clearly.

4. I could really identify with the characters, mainly b/c of their age, but also b/c I know that's exactly how I'd feel if I was out there. The line "tell my parents....that I fought well" almost brought tears to my eyes.

Hype? Because it was the unadulterated truth. That is not the norm out of Hollywood.

Most of us remember seeing GI bodies being dragged about on the tube. Historically speaking it happened just yesterday.

Very very few movies about anything are that accurate in their representation of the actual event.
