Black Hawk Down after 10+ years... lots of big names now

Anyone seen this movie lately? After revisiting it after all these years, I had not realized how many actors are in it that are now relatively successful... Actors whom by name I would not have known at the time and still don't but recognize through their other more recent roles.


These were the ones I knew by name at the time:

Josh Harnett - Sorta fell off the map now but I knew him then
Ewan McGregor - Needs no introduction
Tom Sizemore - Of Saving Private Ryan fame... and Heat
Eric Bana - Made it big soon after this film to my knowledge
William Fichtner - One of the most underrated actors out there, I guess he just likes to play supporting roles?
Orlando Bloom - Must have made a wrong turn at Eisengard, I thought it was weird he was in this movie
Glenn Morshower - Agent Pierce of 24


People I didn't know at the time and finally realized over the past few years were in it:

Tom Hardy - Bane from Dark Knight Rises among others
Played Twombly, one of the soldiers that was left behind while securing a corner

Jeremy Piven - Ari Gold from Entourage(The earliest one I recognized)
Played the pilot of the first downed black hawk

Kim Coates - Tig from Sons of Anarchy
Played one of the deltas(the one decapitated from the waist from an RPG)

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones
Played one of the snipers that volunteered to secure the 2nd crash site

Ty Burrell - Phil Dunphy from Modern Family
Played the medic who dropped into the first crash site to stabilize the wounded.

Holy shit, it's hard to imagine many of these people from the 2nd list would have been a soldier in this movie but they are.

I guess to keep the thread interesting, here's a question, is there any movie you've revisted some time later to find out actors/actresses who were in it that you had not realized were for quite some time? Possibly ones that made a name for themselves after said film.

I watched Drop Dead Fred on Netflix a while ago and kept trying to place this guy, who plays the girl's love interest. I believe his name is 'spiky-haired 80's guy with earrings.'

Yes, Uncle Junior (Domanic Chianse) in The Sopranos was in Godfather II.

Recently watched a few episodes of HBO's Rome and recognized the guy playing Titus Pullo (Ray Stevenson) is Isaac in the 7th season of Dexter.

Can't think of any more right now.

Black Hawk Down was such a great movie. The book was even better.

I am a big special forces junkie, I love reading about Delta. Those guys kick ass big time.

I came to the same realization watching it the other day on FX. I didn't notice that the guy who plays Jaime Lannister was in it though.

So many big names in that movie.

He played that character well! He also plays "that dick" in many movies such as Event Horizon, The Patriot, and Armageddon. I do really like him though.

Ok, funny story.

My wife and I were chilling, maybe a bout 6 months ago. Nothing on TV so I stop on First Contact and start watching it. She's not really paying attention and she watches for a few minutes, then says (this is VERBATIM!):

"You know who would make a really good young Patrick Stewart? Tom Hardy."

I just stared at her for a few minutes because I didn't know if she was just trolling me.

It wasn't a movie, but if you go back through Dawson's Creek(it was big when I was in high school, and my gf loved it). There are a ton of people that made appearances who were nothing, that now play some roles in TV shows and movies. Not as big names as some, but they seem to pop up all the time.

I was watching Fever Pitch with my wife this weekend and there is a punching bag scene where the lady punching the bag is this chick from Private Practice and the person holding the bag is John Cusack's girlfriend from Say Anything. Never noticed the two of them before in the movie.
