Black dots off the t-bird :-(

I was cleaning old thermal paste off it with Goo Gone, getting ready to put some ASII on it.

The goo gone disolved the glue on the black dots and they came off, one went down my sink drain.

So, is it ok to mount a heatsink w/o the black dots, or should I order a shim/new t-bird.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have a peltier on the way.

also consider going to your local hardware store they have some pads used in furniture .........felt with sticky i think those will fit fine.

I tried, but the chip is cold to the touch without a heatsink on it.

Its dead as a doornail.

Who knows, maybe I chipped it too...

Dude, for future knowledge, I read somewhere that citrus-based cleaners, (goo-gone) should NEVER be used to clean CPU's or HS's.... I know it's too late for that one, but you might wanna keep it in mind for next time.

(BTW, isopropyl alcohol works the best, >95% pure only, though. If you can't find that, Radio Shack's tape head cleaner works like a champ!)
