Black dot in my monitor

I just got an LCD monitor and it has a black dot on it. At first I thought it was a dead pixel, but when I look closely I can see that the black dot is a couple of millimeters behind the other pixels. In other words, if I put my mouse pointer next to it and move my head, I can see that the mouse pointer is in front of that dot, not at the same level.

The dot is in front of the white light being generated

Here is a picture of it: pic

Again, that dot isn't the same depth as the mouse pointer, it's behind it a bit.

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't think it can be a dead pixel, since it's behind the array of pixels. I took the picture with my Canon Rebel XTi.

Sounds like a spec of dirt or dust in the panel.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm so tempted to take it apart to clean it, but I know if I do it won't work again.

I have a speck like that in the screen on my Acer AL2051W. It bugged me at first, but I don't even notice it anymore....it just kind of blends in with all the other dust specks that get on the screen. At least you aren't alone :)
