Black customers sue Cracker Barrel chain

Here's the Link to the whole story...

Some tidbits:

Twenty-one people filed a $100 million federal lawsuit against Cracker Barrel restaurants Thursday, accusing the Tennessee-based chain of widespread racism by segregating black customers in the smoking section and denying them service.

Chandra Harmon, a resident of Smyrna, Georgia, said she went to a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at 9:48 p.m. in July and was told by a server that the restaurant was about to close. At 10 p.m., Harmon watched as four white men were seated and served, she said.

"We had hungry children and he still refused to serve us," Harmon said of the manager.

Uh...not too many Cracker Barrels around where I live. Is it really that bad?

<< I'm in PA...but I never noticed anything. Cracker Barrel rocks for good old fat country food... >>

Yah, it sounds awesome. I've done my time in Georgia and South Carolina and eaten lots of country food...The heat sucked ass but the food was great 🙂

I was in that one up in chattanooga about two years ago. It was pretty funny. There was the one waitress that told us that this person sitting next to us was a guy dressed up as a woman. Not a young woman but a older woman. It was strange to see that up there of all places. The dude was reading a book. We would have never known if it weren't for the waitress.

It's in like 30something states. It's like an old-time country general store or something and a restaurant in the other half.

<< Doesnt help that the name is "cracker" barrel does it? >>

Maybe...but don't know why blacks would get mad at that...

<< never even heard of the place. although i have to say, just the name sounds racist 😛 >>

Yeah, but kind of in the other direction. 😉

Even better....Hoss's. I live around DC, so none by me, but when we go through PA, I love stopping there. 🙂

Hmm. I've been to Cracker Barrels all over the Midwest, and the staff are generally among the more pleasant you'll find at any restaurant.

I suppose anything is possible, though.

"Cracker" barrel. Heh.
Where I used to live, there was a little restaraunt called "Sambos"

I hated the place, because they always put me in the side room with all the drunk people.
Guess it would have helped to eat there BEFORE I would go out and get totally faced.

Dude I'm there...I love Hoss's! Big @ss steaks and all the soup/salad/bread and desserts you want for $14.99.

CRACKER Barrel...lol!!! Seriously though, the ones I've been to (around here & south carolina) have black folk working there and i've seen blacks and whites sit down eating together just like you see at McDonald's or something.

If they really wanted to be racist, they'd just open up a sister store for blacks and call it Monkey Barrel.

That quite an ironic name there... Hey, look at us, we're a bunch of crackers!

Seriously though, how many corporations have been smacked with class-action lawsuits by minorities alleging discrimination?

What is this Hoss's you speak of ?! Any in MontCo?

i certainly wouldn't miss it if it suddenly were to cease operations. damn tourist trap. old time country store my @ss.

I really like Cracker Barrel. You can rent a book on tape/cd from them and return it to whatever Cracker Barrel you come to next. They're all over the place on my drive from Atlanta to Detroit!

Aaaactualy, I've picked up some pretty decent gifts at Cracker Barrels. It's no more a tourist trap than any other restaurant you find off the Interstate. If you want a tourist trap, you really would be better off at Hard Rock Cafe or Planet Hollywood.

And it's about the only place I know where you can get fried okra....

Cracker Barrel restaurants got their name from their signature cheese and crackers that can be found in most supermarkets.

Actually, I normally think these things are trumped up BS, but if Cracker Barrel really did some of this, I wouldn't be surprised.

He meant that it was funny cause "cracker" is the slang name for white people

ahahahahahaha!!!!

I've been to a bunch of Cracker Barrel's in Florida and I don't think I've seen a single black employee at any of the restaurants. However, I'm not really surprised by the news. Theres bound to be trouble when a redneck-based company goes nationwide.
