I just picked up a 25 pack of black Imation cdrs at CompUSA ($2.99 after MIR). I'm just wondering what benefit these have over regular cdrs?

No advantages whatsoever.

It's like food coloring. It adds no value or utility except coolness.

imation makes black ones!??? all I've ever seen are the memorex ones.... sweet!!!

yea, they look cool, I heard somewhere that they were more resistant to scratches then the normal ones, how true that is I'm not sure.

There shouldn't be any difference besides esthetics. Although the black CDs look opaque, they are transparent to IR wavelengths, which CD lasers operate at. So that means to a CD player, a black and a clear disc look the same.

Dye colour = different qualities as well.

Dye isn't simply for cosmetics.

I hear they are more scratch resistant, last longer, and are better for selling bootleg copies of Import games to Gamestop. Oh uhm... forget I said that....

<< They are more profitable for the mfgr. They actually cost less to make >>

Can you explain that one to me? It just seems like a simple color that they mix when they make the cd's, how could it be cheaper to mfr.?
