Sometimes, I like to bring my laptop downstairs and connect it with a VGA cable to my Sony kfe50a10 bigscreen tv. The specifications for my tv says it supports a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720, which is exactly what I am giving it. However, there is a 1-2 inch border on all sides of the picture. I was wondering if maybe someone has any suggestions. I have already tried stretching the picture on the ATI catalyst software, as well as messing around with the zoom and picture settings on my tv, but I still cant get the picture to be fullscreen. I am starting to suspect maybe its because I am using a VGA cable. My laptop only has s-video and vga output. Do you guys think getting a vga > dvi converter, then using a dvi cable will work? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

It may be something you have to change in the TV service menu. Check the relevant AVSForum thread...

Well, you definitely want 1:1 mapping, so avoid stretching or zooming. Have you tried the HD resolutions in Catalyst Control Panel (720p60 or 1080p30)?

EDIT: Also, update your video drivers to make sure you're not missing out on auto recognition. A DVI might be better implemented, but a good VGA to DVI was pretty expensive last I checked. Might see if someone could bring over their PC to try it.

For the VGA connection make sure 'Analog' is selected on the TV setup screen.
