Okay I've had this problem now with 2 totally different video cards, using several different TVs.
The first video card was a Leadtek Winfast GeForce 256 128MB DDR. For a long time it worked fine, but then suddenly all I could get was black and white on the TV. I was using the connector they provided to connect an RCA cable from the card to a VCR, and then I watched the video on the VCR video input on a Broksonik 19" TV. The strange thing was, though, that if I put a tape in and recorded it, it would play back in color. This made me think something was wrong with the TV, and sure enough when I tried connecting to a better TV (32" Hitachi) using the S-video input on that TV it worked fine.
However I recently got a Visiontek Xtasy GeForce 4 Ti-4200 128MB DDR, and using the TV-Out on that card with my old TV (the 19" Broksonik connected through a VCR) it worked fine, making me now think that it was the video card (the Winfast always gave me problems anyway). Anyway after a while I got a different TV but I still connected through the RCA inputs on the VCR. This still worked fine for a while, but then it started only showing black and white again. I heard that it might be because I was using a S-video to RCA adapter and connecting to the VCR with the RCA inputs, Visiontek said that TV-Out should be used on S-video. So I switched to S-video directly into the TV. It worked fine again for a while, but now it's back to black and white. And strangely it still plays back in color if I connect it to the VCR and record.
So anyway, I have experienced this same problem now on severl differnt TVs, with several different connection methods, using two completely different video cards. I know it's not a problem with my drivers or settings because, like I said it would work fine for a while before suddenly going to only black and white. Has anyone else had a problem like this? What I can't understand is how it happened with both video cards and different TVs, is there something I might have been doing that causes this problem in general (like using the RCA adapter for so long)?
