Black and White quits to Desktop

I was going through my old games and came across Black & White. So I decided to install it on my new computer. It installed fine, but when I go to run it, it looks fine and runs fine until I click the mouse, then it kicks me back to the desktop. It's as if the mouse's focus is still on the desktop, so if I click at all it will bring the windows behind b&w into focus, but the keyboard will control black and white. Any ideas?
