I read a rant at komotv.com about some math teacher making a math problem on this. He finds it pretty offensive but I am pretty much 😕

It's a stereotype that black people love Watermelon and fried chicken. Stereotype -> Racism.
How can something that is true be a stereo type. There are lots of blacks that like chicken and watermelon, just like there are a lot of white people that like Spam and Mac N Cheese.

mmmmm, if I could eat nothing but cold juicy watermelon from now on (and not die of malnutrition), I totally would. (i'm white, btw, i just love watermelon).

At my last job all the black people would make fun of how they loved fried chicken. They would walk in with a chicken box plus a half & half or a grape soda.

It was so damn funny.

I'd say that comment could be considered racist and offensive, but I don't >>THINK<< you meant it that way.

Personally, I love fried chicken, and watermelon is definitely good on occasion. The chinese tend to eat/use a lot of melons, BTW, but they don't get stereotyped with it. Go figure....

I guess the chicken/watermelon stereotype probably has it roots in the days of slavery, but I am just speculating.

People that stereotype are ignorant, anyway. I don't know how you can stereotype in today's society, anyway. Oh well....

Or they are just trying to get a rise out of people who cant handle anything.

Black people like eating watermelon, fried chicken, and Cream of Wheat.

And they can sing, dance and jump real high too. 🙂

Stereotypes are generally based on the realities of life.

And racism is the most overly misused word in American culture it seems, especially among those in high school and college.

It stems from the 19th century minstrel shows which would mock blacks and portray them as simpletons, generally portrayed by white actors in blackface.
