BK Halloween Whopper packs a bonus surprise!

Burger King has a new Whopper for Halloween that has a black bun. Basically they bake A1 sauce into the bun (and add it on the burger) & turn the bun completely black: (note: bun taste the same, but the A1 sauce they put on the burger is very weak, like it's been watered-down...just get a regular Whopper)

However, this isn't the squid ink they used in the Japan special edition...social media is guessing that they use a combination of food dyes to get the intended color (it's VERY black, like the special completely black baking cocoa powder). Come to find out, this method has interesting post-consumption results...

I ate one & can confirm that you continue to get haunted in colorful ways after eating :biggrin:
 
I told my wife the same thing. I saw that commercial and turned to her and said "Bet that black bun does fun stuff to your poop".

Food dye is nasty stuff. My kids thought it was fun eating a ton of bright blue frosting and then having smurf poop afterwards. That's can't be good for you. We try to avoid food coloring as much as we can. Just ain't natural stuff.

Be warned, no Whopper sauce on it, just watered-down A1. Very disappointing because you don't get very much flavor. Ask for Whopper sauce on it in addition to the rest & then it will be good. This is in my first Whopper in about 10 years (on allergy meds, woot woot!).

I will say that the black color is extremely cool. It's jet-black, but nearly as springy as a regular bun. If you've ever had a cake baked with black cocoa (not the regular dark brown stuff), it looks similar to that but more, um, matte. So it doesn't really affect the texture or anything, which is really cool.

I agree. We eat a lot of crap in the stats that is flat-out banned in other countries with weaker lobbyist systems. I try to eat foods with fewer ingredients, but now that I'm back on the gluten & dairy, I'm finding that I have pretty much zero self-control haha. I have to try everything!!

On the flip side, I had a Dorito taco from Taco Bell for lunch today & it was pretty awesome :biggrin:
 
I haven't eaten at Burger King in probably 20 years. If I want a decent burger I'm going to In-N-Out. If I want a shit burger... oh wait, that's why I haven't been to Burger King in 20 years. 😀

"Whopper sauce?" I like Whoppers and I've never detected a "sauce" other than ketchup and mayo. I have no doubt that the patty has added flavors that contribute to my hands smelling specifically and identifiably like a Whopper for the rest of the day, even persisting through hand washes, but that would not be a "sauce" that goes on the sandwich itself.
 
I would rather it turn my poop funny colors than not. Cause if it does that, then at least a lot of it isn't being absorbed into my bloodstream and thus not hurting me...

Yeah, there is no "whopper sauce" on any whopper I ever ate. Just ketchup and mayo, and these days I tell them to hold the mayo.

Whopper sauce? Isn't that just mayo and ketchup?
 
Many moons ago when I worked for BK, they had just come out with the "Frozen Coke" machines which were always "Frozen Coke" and then a secondary seasonal (usually cherry) flavor. I can't remember what the flavor was but the color was black.

Turned everyone's shit purple and we had to post notices about it.
