BJJ in Wrestling Match

I just started taking BJJ, and am curious as to how well a BJJ practitioner would do in a wrestling match. I'm sure with rules favoring wrestling, the wrestler will win, but will the BJJ fighter have a chance? Are submissions allowed in wrestling at all? Can BJJ fighters get out of a wrestling pin? etc.

In a straight up MMA match BJJ usually beats wrestling. Depends on who is representing each style. BJJ guys fight on their backs, so a pin means nothing to them, but to a wrestler thats the end game.

no submissions in wrestling
no takedowns using the legs in wrestling
no leg manipulation in wrestling

point system in wrestling is different. a wrestler would own a bjj guy in wrestling rules.

Yeah, since BJJ has finishing moves, I'm sure a BJJ fighter will win against a wrestler in a mixed martial arts fight. But talking about just a high school wrestling match, for example, what advantages would someone with a BJJ background have? Can you put the other guy in an armbar, or chokehold? Stuff like that.

Edit: question answered by above 2 posts^

in collegiate wrestling (same as high school) no chockes, no submission moves, ect.

those things would either be stopped for being "potentially dangerous" or unsportsman like

That's too bad...those are things that often win fights that go to the ground.

I agree that those could be very useful in a fight, but a good double leg is also

BJJ is more like an applied fighting style. Its defensive in nature, but you win by crippling your attacker. Wrestling is a sport. A wrestler could still do real damage with their takedowns.

Against a wrestler you would have to first take him down. Taking him down will be your toughest feat since wrestlers have great takedown defense. From the ground though, if the wrestler has not trained in BJJ you'd have the advantage in submitting him. But again, that is if you can take him down. If you watch the most recent UFC with Tim Sylva vs Jeff Monson, Sylvia has a great group of guys who all wrestled in college and Monson on the other hand is a black belt in BJJ and a world champion (Abu Dhabi) but Sylvia for the most part nullified Monson's take down attempts each and everytime he shot in. However, being several inches shorter than Sylvia didn't help him either.

In a wrestling match you would get destroyed. A wrestler would either take you down and lay on your the entire match, thus outscoring you, or he would pin you. You should know if you've taken BJJ that a BJJ guy doesn't mind fighting off his back. So while this is useful in a fight or in a BJJ tourny, you would just lose points being on your back in a wrestling match. They are totally different as wrestling is a sport (although it is useful in a fight) and BJJ is more for fighting (although it is also a sport with tournaments, etc.)

depends on what wrestling.in greco-roman you can not attack legs. in freeystyle its a llittle diffrent.

but in highschool/college yes there are 1 and 2 leg takedowns and leg manipulation.

did freestyle/greco-roman for about 8 years and wrestled for 15 years.
