Bizzarre Steam problem - HL2 back down to 76% complete!

Alright, I just encountered the weirdest problem with Steam/HL2. After playing HL2 this morning (runs silky smooth; awesome game btw), and queuing Half Life:Source to download in the morning, Steam now says HL2 is only 76% and HL1:S is only 77% done.

Here's what I did:

Unlocked HL2 this morning and played it for a couple hours. Everything worked fine and it showed as 100% complete (of course). Set HL1:Source to download and left the PC on. Came back a couple hours later and HL1:S said 100% complete. Fired up HL1:S and played up to "Unforseen Consequences" (ie about 20 mins in). Shut off Steam.

Now, a few hours later, when I open up Steam, it's like this morning never happened or something (although my HL2 save folder still has everything from when I played this morning). HL2 is back down to 76% complete (so I can't run it anymore) and HL:S is down to 77% done. I tried launching the game in offline mode to see if it was just a problem with Steam, but it still reported 76%/77% for the two games.

What the heck happened? Now, apparently I have to download the remaning 24% of HL2 all over again!

Hopefully nobody else gets this problem - it's quite bizarre and pretty annoying!

whats this guff about waiting after installing the cd-rom version jiffy?

I dunno, I preloaded. But I'm talking about having to create a Steam account (or register online or something) after you install the CD version, and since Steam is having so many problems this afternoon CD users can't unlock their games! It's really quite sad.

Well the text box only allowed me to enter in so many characters so it must be right.

xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxx

There are 5 strings of 5 character inputs followed by one longer 8 character string before "HALFLIFE 2".

Are you telling me to leave out the 8 character string?

nevermind, lol, you were right. I thought the characters before "Halflife2" was part of the key.

Yep, I made the mistake of entering the 8 character string this morning.
