I've finally re-assembled the above system after numerous RMA's and up until recently it was working just fine. After getting everything up and running, I thought I'd give it a little push in the right direction and overclock it just a little bit. It seemed to be running kind of sluggishly for a Dual-Core processor, even with the appropriate Dual-Core fixes in place. I made sure to update every possible component as far as possible before beginning.
Now, let me say first off that I'm not an overclocking genius - I'm a beginner. I didn't want to rush into things and get involved with a huge boost that pushes my system to its limits, so I loaded up uGuru and selected the "Turbo" option which should've put my X2's speed to around 2.2 GHz - far from incredible. uGuru reported temperatures not in excess of 35c at load under stock settings, so I figured that heat wouldn't really be much of an issue.
The second I clicked "Turbo", the system powered down immediately. And there is no excuse for components like mine to fail at mediocre settings like that.
But regardless, I figured I'd try with something even less intensive than the Turbo setting, so I readied up a custom setting to clock the processor at 2.1 GHz and loaded it. Yep, everything seemed to be running okay so I let it play around with Prime95 for about an hour or so. Nothing, and I was itching to try out Call of Duty 2 so I loaded it up and started a single-player server so I could get acquainted with multiplayer's additional weapons that weren't found in the single-player mode. I was merrily blowing myself up with grenades and respawning when I hit a BSOD and the system rebooted.
When I loaded up Windows, there was no sound output. I freaked out, thinking that somehow my X-Fi got fried.
The speakers seemed to work okay - I hooked them up to the crappy AC'97 riser card ABIT included with the motherboard. Then I tried using my X-Fi again but switching to game mode, and I got sound. But if I switch back to Entertainment Mode, I don't get any sound output. System Restore doesn't appear to do anything to alleviate the problems.
I'm extremely confused by all of these problems I now face. To sum it all up:
1) My system takes to a 200 MHz overclock like a cat takes to water.
2) My system gave out during CoD2 with a 100 MHz overclock.
3) I can get sound output in X-FI Game Mode, but not in Entertainment Mode.
Any help? Suggestions? Advice?
I've previously tested the memory under Memtest for several hours on end and they didn't turn up any errors. ABIT EQ reports the Power Supply's voltages as somewhat higher than normal.
