Bizarre issue..

Cable internet - Direct modem connection to any device - no problem. MS is perfect..all day, all night.. but.. If I hook up a router (and I've tried 3 - two new ones and one old one) I will eventually get crazy spikes of 2-3k ms, packet loss etc etc.

When the router is hooked up, I've tried only hooking up one device to it and it doesn't matter if one device or 10 is hooked - same issue. Terrible ping spikes that might last for hours - or minutes before returning to normal for a while. Just as soon as I disconnect the router and do a straight modem connection, ms is perfect again.

I've tried changing wifi channels, turning the transmitter off.. moving the router to a new location...changing cables... firmware updates... even tried 3 modems - one is brand new.. I'm at a loss.. The only thing I can figure is some type of interference..? It does this with a wireless or hard wired connection. This can only be on my side of things right? I can't think of how the isp provider could be at fault, since from them to the modem and then from the modem to device works great..

Any ideas?
