bizarre glitch, keyboard problem?

Yesterday in Windows I had to reboot due to a keyboard issue: Suddenly all characters came out in uppercase, pressing shift or CAPS Lock wouldn't do anything. I wanted to save an open file and so i had to type "\" for the path, but it came out as the pipe symbol "|" instead. Pressing certain keys would take the focus out of the current window. This occurred under XP, but I have seen this on rare occasions over the years during my use of 95, 98, and 2K. Different hardware and software was involved, and I strongly doubt that a virus is involved, so I think this may just be some weird glitch that affects Windows' understanding of the keyboard input. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Hallucinogens have strange effects on people...

Have you been using the same keyboard for a long time? Try switching to a USB keyboard maybe. Also, check in your control panel to make sure you have a 104-key (or 102, whatever you have) standard keyboard selected, not some strange config. It could also have something to do with your language settings? Just make sure those are straight as well...

Yes, I've seen this when windows somehow missing a keyup usually on the alt or control keys. I think it might be related to the accessability stuff, but I'm not sure. Usually hitting alt or control enough times 'fixes' it. Probably ran into it 3-4 times over the last 18 months.
