Bizarre Cyberpower UPS issues

Ive got a CyberPower Office Rackmount LCD Series OR1500LCDRM2U protecting a Phone Switch, an Ethernet switch (hp procurve), and a HP Server with redundant power supplies. Plugged into one of the battery backup outlets of the UPS is a Cyberpower network enabled PDU. All of the devices are plugged into a separate outlet on the PDU. We use the PDU to remote control each individual devices power as this setup is in a remote location.

When the office experiences a power blip (power shuts off for about 1 or 2 seconds), the server shuts off (not shuts down, it does not go down gracefully). It sits there with an amber light on the front and will not even turn on with the power switch until I connect to the PDU, cut the power to both power supplies, then turn them back on, with the BIOS set to power on after power failure, it fires right back up. The PDU uptime still shows 76 days, indicating it's never lost power, as do the other two devices.

I'm completely stumped as to why the SERVER ONLY is shutting off. Ive duplicated this a few times, Ive asked a girl at the office to pull the plug on the UPS after hours, and my connection to the PDU remains in tact, i can ping the switch, etc, but the server shuts off like you unplugged it.

I even had her plug one of the redundant PSU's directly into one of the battery backed outlets thinking maybe the draw on the single outlet was too much but the server still went down when utility power was removed from the UPS.

I've combed through the settings on this UPS and i see nothing that would effect this as far as I can tell. I'm at a complete loss and hoping someone may have run across this issue, or something I've said will click and may have a suggestion as to what is going on here. If the PDU and other devices are staying up, why is the server shutting off. In desperation I even unplugged the data cable from the PSU to the Server on the off chance it was telling it to shut off, but that would still be a graceful shut down, and this isn't a graceful shut down, regardless, removing the USB didn't work either.

Help.

Might be the same issue I had with my last UPS and a new computer
The UPS isn't outputting pure sine wave power

Had 2 computers plugged into it one would stay on fine the other would shut off in an outage

Here is some more info

PFC power supplies like pure sine wave or they shut off is what I have gathered

Could be an overload situation or you are in a non-battery backed up port.

I stated it was using a battery backed port in the original post. Additionally, the other devices stay up, so it has to be battery backed. I cant possibly think its overload unless there is something wrong with the UPS, its a 1500VA UPS running 3 devices, I should be able to DOUBLE the load on this thing with no issues.

This is a very interesting topic for me to look into snoturtle thank you, I will research this more thoroughly and see if this may be what is happening. I'm not looking forward to it though because if this is it, well, at least we have an answer, but then we have to change all of these UPS units out, because its the same setup in 4 offices. Blek.

I could run some tests in other offices to see if the same thing occurs, as the servers there are the exact same models.

After researching this a bit more, this looks to be the issue. I verified with Cyberpower that this model is in fact Simulated Sine Wave output, not True Sine Wave. Cyberpower does have a True Sine output model, the equivalent to the one in my post ends up being the PR1500LCDRT2U.

Thanks snoturtle!

I didn't look up your UPS nor do power level calcs. 3 devices <> a UPS handling them.

I assumed you had a proper UPS for servers, sine wave output.

I failed.

No problem and glad I could help
I went crazy when mine did it trying to find info and was surprised to find that this was the case and had to order a new UPS

Of course that was right after I replaced the battery :)
