bizarre crash when downloading

This seems like a pretty weird problem to me...

When I'm downloading something through the XDCC protocol in IRC, I will often crash. This usually happens when I'm away from my computer, but I've seen it happen once and I get a blue screen. I am using Windows 2000 SP 2. If I look at the error log it says it had a 1001 error log and saved stuff to a dump file or whatever. Any ideas what this could possibly be?
