So, check out this bizarre happening that's been going on with my dual rig...
100% stable for almost a year, no problems whatsoever, nothing changed/added recently.
Tyan Tiger S2460 board, dual 1800+ processors, AX-7 HS, 42CFm fans
Enermax 431 powersupply
Last nite, I started loosing my network connection. When this happened, I could no longer ping my other machines or my router. Rebooting would fix the problem for a while. I then found that to fix my problem, all I had to do was disable and reenable my network connection via the networking control panel. After reenabling, it would sometimes not work, sometimes work for less than a minute, sometimes would work for hours. I set a static IP address to take DHCP out of the picture. I then disconnected my hub and swapped my cable to elimate that.
Today, same problem so I installed a fresh copy of XP to another partition to rule out an OS problem. Problem still occured so I started to suspect my network adapter. At one point while doing my disable/enable deal, the system rebooted. (no blue screen, no event log entry beyond the 'unexpected shutdown' deal)
Opened case, moved network card to another slot. While I was in my BIOS, I noticed that my 5-volt rail was running around 4.43V. (It normally has been running around 4.6) So, I reseated all my cards, checked all my connections, disconnected my CD and DVD drive as well as power to 3 of my SCSI drives, yanked my network and sound cards, unhooked some case fans, etc.
Upon booting now, the system would reboot during the process. Trying to go into safe mode, I noticed it would crap (and sometimes make a strange ARRRKK sound) when it got to loading AMDAGP.SYS - regardless of which installation I'm booting to.
This was starting to reinforce my powersupply suspicions thinking that when the AGP driver initialized, it sucked enough juice to cause a reboot.
For some strange reason, it booted normally for me about 10 minutes ago. Checking MBM, my 5V line is at 4.39 idle and running at 4.26 under load.
I think I'm about to cruise to the store and grab a 430 Antec TruePower.
Comments? Agreement? Suggesions?
